Default Problem with PS3 remote and controller not staying synced up with console

I play a lot of guitar hero 3 on my ps3 and use either the remote or the console to turn on the PS3 so that the guitar will be set to controller #1. Sometimes when watching a blu ray or dvd on the ps3, the remote will work just fine at first, but at some point during the movie, I try to use the remote to pause the move, or hit the display butotn to see how much time is remaining, but nothing works. If I turn the guitar controller on, it works fine, but I can't really use that to well, nor do I want to, for controlling dvds. Sometimes even if the console is off the remote won't turn it on, and if I grab the controller and press the PS button, the four led lights just flash and nothing happens. What causes this to happen so often, is it something to do with me using the guitar controller so much? I've checked the batteries in my remote and controller and they are just fine, so I know it's not low batteries causing the problems.

Do you ever switch the I/O power button off in the back side of the PS3? I never turn it off and very rarely have problems. I've had to use the USB cable a few times for the SixAxis/DualShock3 controllers but I've only had to re-sync my remote once. Not sure what actually causes it.

Sometimes when I can't get the remote to connect, I turn the PS3 off, then cycle the power switch on the back of the console, then it will work. But it's odd that when the ps3 is off, and I turn it on with the remote and everything is fine, but during a movie the remote stops working altogether.

I've actually had occasional problems syncing my controllers with my PS3 ever since the last firmware update. About once a week I'll hit the PS button on the controller. It'll power up the console, but then all the LEDs on the controller will just flash for 30 seconds and then go black. Sometimes it takes a couple tries syncing with the USB cord before the console will recognize the controller.

That's exactly what mine has been doing...but I have to power off the switch in the back and then turn it back on...then it works perfectly

Freaks me out every time it happens though since my PS3 isn't under warranty anymore...

Mine's a 60-Gig launch unit. I'm not too worried about it, yet. Good to know that flipping the power off should resolve it.

Default feel you pain

I am having the exact same problem! I posted a forum a month ago about the same issue but not a lot of people responded or had this problem. I also turned off the power switch in the back to fix it every once in a while. What sucks is my headset goes out too. . Maybe the bluetooth is just messed up in some of them? Did you get a 40 gig? I play it wired most of the time now cause it usually goes out after about 30 min - 1 hour.

Yes, I have a 40 gig console. I didn't know if this was a firmware related problem, or if it maybe had something to do with me not having my sixaxis set to 1st controller, since I'm mainly using my PS3 for blu ray and Guitar Hero 3. It just seems odd that the remote works fine when I turn the unit on and start a movie, but stops working after a little bit, and the sixaxis won't connect either, but the guitar hero guitar works fine still.

Try pressing the PS button.

well im on the same boat with you and like i've been told i'm gonna tell you...call sony(they are probably gonna tell you to do those things you've done a million times already) and send it to them. I'm going to do the same as well...i didn't spend all that money on ds3, a headset, and blu ray remote for nothing.

I'm not spending $150 to get my out-of-warranty 60-Gig "fixed" when the only inconvenience is the occasional controller struggle.
