Unhappy Onkyo 706 - Choppy Audio

When using either my Xbox 360 or Cable box, the audio gets choppy, drops out here and there, it is annoying because it is almost like a skipping cd, I just reset the receiver and it still happens.

Everything is connected via HDMI, when I watch Blu-rays on my PS3 though, everything is perfect, it is just with Dolby Digital stuff I can't find anything else on this sort of issue

I have that from time to time with my PS3 and my Harmon Kardon 247. Watching vidoes from time to time with it connected to HDMI sometimes the Audio goes out. I have to switch to like Cd or VCR and go back to HDMI to get the sound back.

I just picked up a 706 yesterday at CC. What are the issues with the unit besides the comp to HDMI blue screen issue, (it's diff than the blue dot 806 issue problem)... (all me stuff is HDMI so that's not a problem for me). Does the 706 "pass-thru" 1080p 24p video unmolested? Thanks for the help guy.

I changed the HDMI cables for the Xbox 360 and cable box, and it fixed it for a few minutes. Then it started back to skipping again

I had that problem with my Directv dvr when I set the dvr to output dolby digital 5.1. I had a onkyo 605 at the time, it would piss me off. I put the setting on my cable box back to pcm and it was fine.

I dont have a setting for that on my cable box, or xbox 360, only Dolby Digital 5.1. Thanks though.

I think it is when I try to bitstream something that is Dolby Digital 5.1 that is the problem. I just tried Journey to the Center of the Earth on my PS3 and it played fine when I set the PS3 to Linear PCM, when I changed it to Bitstream it became choppy like everything else.

I would just let the ps3 decode everything for you. Im not real sure if the bitstreaming aspect of the ps3 is up to par. I know it cant bitstream HD audio.

I know it can't. I always have it set to PCM. I tried bitstream to see if the same thing happened with the Dolby digital. And it did...

it must be something with the onkyos and cable boxes. I thought they would have corrected it in the last series. I cant believe your cable box doesnt have the option to switch to output pcm or dolby. hmmm

It only has options for mono, stereo, and surround. All of which show up on the receiver as dolby digital and result in the same choppy audio. Still happens with the 360 as well
