PS3 2009: The thread to end all threads!

As we enter the third and best year for PS3 I thought I would do a proper thread and sticky it as a catch all. This is strictly from a gamers POV.

So lets do a quick recap of years past! I'll keep it short.

2006 - Launch year. Terrible stuff. $599, says it all really! One decent game on launch, Resistance: Fall of Man. Otherwise 2006 was pretty barren for PS3 gamers, at least we had Blu-rays.

2007 - The year started badly amid delays in PAL and lies from SCE about shortages, but at GDC SCEE showed off a product called Home which would revolutionise the way we view the online gaming world(!) and the buzz was back. E3 needed to be strong, and boy did Sony deliver! 2007 ended with the introduction of the popular but gimped 40GB model for a reasonable $399/£299/€399 which propelled the PS3 from last place to, err, well last place, but it wasn't all bad as it gave Sony a platform to build on for 2008! Also Uncharted!!!!

2008 - Ahh, 2008 how little we knew ye... The year started off with a bang. WB dropped the bombshell that ended the format war and it proved to be a big win for the PS3. It gained a lot of short term momentum, but sadly SCE weren't able to capitalise on it. The games kept on coming, the incredibly popular exclusive Haze by Ubisoft, oh no, I mean Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots from Hideo Kojima and Konami propelled the PS3 to it's biggest ever monthly sales out of the holiday season, and the great games kept on coming all throughout the year. Some sad moments arose, the betrayal-ton from Wada at E3 the biggest, but we endured! Towards the end of the year there was lots of ill-will in the media towards the PS3, mainly to do with the pricing, but SCE didn't relent and PS3 finished bottom of the pile.

Onto 2009

2009 comes in with a lot of promise, talks of a price cut, SCE finally turning a profit, and well happier times in general...
