Exclamation Sony screws United Kingdom over iTunes Digital Copy!

Sony screws United Kingdom over iTunes Digital Copy!

Yes you heard that right,

I purchased Pineapple Express on bluray that came with the digital copy of the movie, and as we were promised it would come with the iTunes version well guess what it didnt!

I contacted Sony Pictures about this aswell as itunes to find out that the Uk has been screwd out of it again and our version of the movie doesnt come with the iTunes version!!!

Yet the usa version everythings there working great for american buyers...

Post your thoughts on this and lets hope something gets done about it for us who Sony robbed with the false advertisement!!!

after a day of waiting on a reply this is what i recieved!!!

Thank you for your recent e-mail.

The bonus digital copy contains two videos:
a) for the PSP (Sony Playstation Portable)
b) for PC using the format WMV.

Please note that the video file for PC is protected with DRM (Digital Rights
Management) which is not support by iTunes. Therefore you can not import it to
transfer the video onto your iPod.

If you have further questions please do not hesitate to contact us again.

Kind regards,
Your BDC Service Team!

DRM should be outlawed!!!

It's probably more than just Sony screwing you over though. I imagine there is more going on behind the scenes than just Sony not wanting to give an iTunes copy to UK residents. I have no idea exactly how iTunes DRM is controlled though as I'm very much anti iTunes/iPod because of all the DRM bologna

meh, you bought the blu-ray for the blu-ray. digital copy is just a bonus, if it works it on your device then it works on your device. hell, if it really bugs you that your freebee copy doesn't play on your ipod then just download it for your ipod, most countries copy-right laws are consumer friendly enough to allow you to download movies if you already own them.

The point is though that you bought the movie and should be able to do whatever you want with it. If they give you the digital copy for your portable device, then you should be able to put it on any portable device you own and not just those that Hollywood says are okay.

That's a shame

I'm sure it would have said on the back of the case something like "not compatible with apple computers/ipods" etc. Perhaps you could convert the video into MP4 format but I understand your argument

you also bought the movie on the blu-ray format, if you were to complain that your blu-ray format disc didn't play in your DVD format player it would be your own fault for not realizing it wouldn't work, right?

the movie came with a digital copy in both PSP and WMV format, yet you complain that your iPod doesn't play those files? how is that different than someone complaining that the BD doesn't play in their DVD player?

Don't blame Sony because you thought your iPod would play the WMV, just like you shouldn't blame Sony if you thought your DVD player would play a BD.

Probably worth noting that separate licensing deals apply to the UK for iTunes - if you make a deal for content with iTunes US, that deal is separate from and does not include other iTunes stores around the world. As such, since each Sony branch works to its budgets and not one big world-wide one, you can safely presume that the UK branch of Sony is saving itself the licensing deal with iTunes UK, while in turn trying to encourage PSP sales.

Then again, it may just be a technical oversight somewhere in the internal bureaucracy.

I bought Pineapple Express and had the same problem. I don't think the above quote is valid as the DVD is advertised as containing a Bonus Digital Copy that can be played anywhere. It mentions no restrictions over which players are compatible or which format the digital copy comes in. A simple not compatible with iTunes / iPod would solve the problem.

I am very eager have an entirely digital movie library ideally with iTunes and bought RocknRolla and Pineapple Express on BluRay and DVD on the same day only to realise that neither digital copy were compatible with iTunes. I really think it's false advertising by both WB and Sony and find it very frustrating.
