Default Netflix streaming

My current model Sony BDP S300 is slow loading and I have thought about purchasing a "2.0" model from one of the OEM and I would like the option of using streaming available to me as a member of Netflix.

Netflix says they only support (or are supported by) Samsung and LG and NO Sonys are equipped to play streaming from Netflix. I read an article today, the magazine I think was Audio and Visual and the writer indicated that he has enjoyed his Panasonic DMP 35 and it can support Netflix streaming.

Costco sells the Sony BDP BX1 and there are a number of postings on this unit but no mention of Netflix streaming for it or any other Blu-Ray models.

Your thoughts for a good choice in Blu-Ray for Netflix streaming and other features?

Default Netflix streaming is not HD quality...

The Sony BDP BX1 is a good choice for Bluray... however, your best bet is a PS3.

Now about Netflix... Don't expect to get HD quality streaming from Netflix yet. Even if you have an awesome setup at home, the PQ is determined by the bandwith of your network. It gets really frustrating sometimes when the streams stops and you get a message saying that the image will be adjusted... and when it comes back, it is worse than SD quality. We usually have to stop it and re-start it a couple of times until a higher resolution comes back. We started streaming from a wireless router then changed it to network cable hoping we would get better quality. never happened. I know I am gonna get some flack for this... but WTH, we stream Netflix with a brand new xbox, but we always end up cancelling the movie and waiting for it to come in the mail... the best results have come from using the laptop to watch a tv episode or something you know is not big deal if is not good quality...

Smile New Blu-Ray is a Panasonic DMP 35

I just got fed up with the slow load for Blu Ray with my Sony 300 and bought the P DMP 35.

I hardly notice the load time, it's so fast. It seems even faster than the ads suggested it would be.

As far as streaming Netflix, I haven't put an ethernet cord from my computer to the DMP 35, mainly because I have plenty to watch without it at the moment and I like the closed caption which is not supported by Netflix. In fact, many of their regular mailed movies don't have subtitles unless the movie is in a foreign language. It seems strange that ALL TVs must support closed caption, but movies can do as they please with it. Kind of like having a turn signal required but no requirement to use it.

I could see no difference in the picture with Blu Ray, but the remote seems more user friendly. Sony did have a cc button in case it was not one of the setting choices and I haven't found that yet on the P DMP 35. Price was under $279 at Costco.

Nearly every DVD I get from netflix has subtitles and the CC button will never bring them up. You have to select it from the menu before you start and some will let me use the subtitle button during.

Default Choice of closed captions

Occasionally, the setup choice does not include closed caption but when the movie starts, I could select english and the movie continues with cc. I can't explain why it was not an original setup option, but it wasn't and when there is no cc, I always checked (Sony BluRay) with the cc button. Not enough films with the Panasonic to research this item.

You have selected movies that contain cc or else you do not use this option because a considerable number of those I select do not have cc.

I spoke with a tech from Netflix about this and she indicated that the original description would cover whether the movie contained the cc option. We (together) found several movies that did not indicate in the original description whether cc existed on the film. So some don't and probably most do have cc. I had one film that offered cc only in Spanish.

As far as I know, the Samsung 2500 and the LG BD300 are the only blu ray players that stream netflix. I have the LG BD300 and it's super fast loading and Netflix streaming has been great. A couple titles actually came up as HD streaming, but there isn't a whole lot of titles currently streaming HD.

I'm really not a fan of LG products but this player was on sale for $50 cheaper then the Samsung and it was in stock unlike the Samsung. I didn't want to have to wait and go back to the store and try to get a Samsung because I saw that they were sold out everywhere locally.

The player has been great so far. Super Fast loading, Netflix Streaming, and it just added You Tube access through the Home Screen. I got it for $299 at Best Buy. Can't complain so far. We'll see how it hold up over time.

I have a Samsung 2500,....it does stream Netflix,....it does do it in HD (the last firmware update enabled this),.....and I have never had a movie stop and start on it's own or change resolutions in mid stream. If yours are doing this,...your internet connection is at fault. The ability to do this on demand is a HUGE plus on any player.

I agree, I have no issues with freezing or stopping while watching streming content. Check with your Internet provider.

I tried streamin Netflix on my PS3 with a 1.5 MB DSL line and the results were way way below VHS quality even. You would need much faster than 1.5 MB speed to get DVD quality let alone semi-HD Quality from it.

I'm not saying that all titles are excellent, but out of the 20 or so I have watched, only 1 (Jackass 2.5) had questionable quality. I have a 12/2 Comcast cable internet line so maybe that is why I have no issues.
