Default Recommendation for an equivalent to Onkyo 706

I bought an Onkyo 706 a few weeks ago, and have found out it has issues with my Xbox 360, Cable Box, and basically anything that bitstreams. I have taken it to two different service centers who have both told me that there is Nothing wrong with it, yet I still have the issues.

So, I am looking for a receiver that is equal to or slightly better than the Onkyo 706, I do not want another Onkyo, this is the first and last time for me with them, unfortunately. Preferably $600 and Under.

Thanks

Try the pioneer vsx-1018ah-k. I have a friend who has one. He hasn't had any similar problems.

I was looking into that one before I got my Onkyo, but those are scarce due to the 1019 coming out

Thanks though

What's the problem? Apparently I don't have the issue on the 605 since I am able to use the 360, Wii, and cable without issue.

I just saw this thread...........

What about the Denon AVR-1909? You can find it online for under $600.

I went from a "bugy" Onkyo 805 to the Denon 3808CI and could not be happier.

I was having issues with bitstreaming to the 706, audio came out all choppy, sort of like a skipping cd. but according to the two different service centers I took it to, they said that it was 100% perfectly fine....guess its just in my head

Ah, just realized you changed your avatar and I "didn't recognize you". I forget if you have a 360 with HDMI or not, but if you don't, have you tried a different optical cable? It's kind of easy for those to get damaged- if they're tweaked too far it cracks it and messes up the light path.

*edit* Nevermind, just read your other thread.

LOL....Arowana. Thanks! He's a beast. I've had him for about 6 years now and he's just over 22" long. He jumped out the tank 3 weeks ago and scarred the sh*t out of me.

I got him back in the tank though and he's fine, but really banged up.

Now.....back to your receiver issue

I would go with a Denon or Yamaha.

Lol I was close. I had one a few years back with my uncles tank. It was fun hand feeding it. Got to be about the same length as the one you have. I saw one at an aquarium that had to be 5ft long it was crazy.

I am going to look into yamaha. The new Pioneers only have sub pre-outs. That doesn't help if I want an amp somewhere down the road.

If you want a surround receiver that would sound good for both movies and music, I would recommend checking out the following receivers from Yamaha, Marantz, and Denon.

Here's the Yamaha RX-V863 for $623 shipped:

http://www.dbuys.com/product/?51552&...34063535&sk1=1

If you don't like the previous Yamaha gold LCD screens, check out the new RX-V765 with its blue LCD screen.

Denon AVR-2808CI for $639 shipped:

Marantz - SR5003 for 4575 shipped:
