Default French workers take matters into their own hands! Take the boss hostage!

Workers hold boss of Sony France hostage

Sony decide to cut a factory that makes VHS and audio cassettes, French people strike and take the executive hostage. Retraining to make DVD/BD/CD would be a waste as one of the largest replication plants in the world is owned by Sony in Salzburg, Austria.

Don't get me wrong I feel sorry for the people losing their jobs, but there's a reason Sony are closing down the plant, and there's no reason for these people to start acting like a pack of idiots.

If anything it gives Sony more ammunition to close the plant and not pay remuneration to the sacked workers.

I could see them complaining if it was making a product that was still viable, but VHS and audio cassettes aren't exactly a hot commodity anymore. All this does is make them look like a bunch of thugs. It's horrible the plant is being shut down, but it should have been retooled years ago. If the plant had tried to keep up with the times, it might still be open today.

In other words it's Sony's fault for not "retooling" as you put it. Therefore these guys are within their rights because they are losing their jobs and the IDIOTS over at Sony who did not think of retooling will continue to be on payroll and with a few more digits in their checks at the end of the month.

Always the same story, big guys f***-up and little guys pay the bill ...

Within their rights to hold someone against their will?

Rubbish.

Tell me that when you lose your job because some white collar hot shot check mates you like a vulgar pawn on a chessboard, when you will lose sleep cause you don't know what will tomorrow be made of and if you will still be able to pay the bills at the end of the month, if you'll still have a roof over your head where your kids are safe and so on.

Maybe Americans should free Madoff cause yeah he's likely going to end up in prison against his will (oh wait, he conned rich people not little people and yeah that warrants him to be arrested. Stupid Madoff if he had stolen 1000 dollars to 10 million little people then yeah he should not go to prison but he did rich and important people, ooh the evil Madoff)

Besides that guy was held for 24 hours and he is fine and for your information he is now free.

They are totally within their rights and I stand my ground on that.

Sony didn't retool because they have already got a massive DVD replication plant just across the border in Austria, it serves the whole of Europe and Africa.

The simple fact is that these guys are unfortunately surplus to requirements. Sad, yes, but in this economy a company can't afford to keep anyone on just because they should or because they can.

You have a valid point there Mr Mod, but when people have the power to play with other people's jobs, I think they should work out a better strategy. It's not like they discovered these financial issues this morning, they had years to figure something out and they were paid during those years to figure something out.

When people have the power to play with other people's freedom, I think they need to work out a better strategy. It's not like they discovered these financial issues this morning, they had years to figure something out, and they were paid to do something other than lock up the employer who paid them for all that time.

There's no point in supporting kidnappers or hostage takers, and I don't understand anyone who does. This whole "we couldn't find any other solution" or "you're forcing me to do this" nonsense is what we hear from every self-centered criminal with their self-interest in mind.

Either these hostage takers had enough sense to find a better way to deal with their problems, or they didn't have enough sense. Either they're self-centered gangsters, or dunderheads without enough intelligence to solve their problems constructively.

Either way, they certainly don't need encouragement.

Sony have been paying these guys for years to produce something that no one buys. The employees were lucky that Sony didn't shut the plant down three or four years ago like they should have. If anything They are lucky to have been paid for 4 years to produce an outdated product.

Acts of violence do not save jobs. Proving your worth and furthe educating yourself do.

Unbelievable that the French stabbed someone in the back. I'll need more proof before I pass judgment.

nothing new tbh, french farmers burning british sheep/cows, blocking the ports and screwing up the area I live in with traffic cos they dont agree wth the farm subsidies, the french national power company subsidises french customers while butt-shafting the uk ones, having a camp built for the illegal immigrants that are illegal in france so they can come here illegally instead?
The french are great people, but they only really give a stuff about themselves.
It would be blindingly obvious that a vhs and cassette manufacturing plant would be shutting. Holding hostages isnt the answer, the position is indefencable!

I'm sorry to break the bad news to you but nobody got killed, it was not a bloodbath. But don't lose hope, bloodbaths still happen here and there, recently in Germany, oh I bet the first thing you do in the morning is not to take a piss but to lovingly watch your guns and feel almighty with those.

It does happen everywhere, even in Belgium. Police raids on criminals don't have to end in a bloodbath. That is entirely up to the criminals. But after reading the OP, they were told about the April closing in December. It's not like they just found out. And I would think anyone with more than a few IQ points could have figured they were on borrowed time producing video tapes.

Dude there are lots of things people with a little bit of IQ should figure, very basic stuff like, guns primary purpose is to kill therefore having guns allegedly for any other purpose is BS to the self. As for the tape producing people yeah, they should have figured but I don't know all the details of the case. My point is just that little guys pay the bill while big guys get away with whatever. Feel free to disagree if you want.

I'm a little guy. There are plenty of ways to make a buck. It may not be in your chosen field, but if you have a family to feed sometimes you have to swallow your pride and take a shitty job till something better comes along. I guarantee that would work better than holding hostages.

WRONG. The ONLY way to get what you want is through violence.
