do the research yourself, you'll feel better about your purchase. If you have read all that you can about systems, then ask about specifics your about ready to pull the trigger on. What your asking will turn this thread into a war of people on opposite ends of components and what they specifically own. There are piles of threads on this very website that you can learn the difference of plasma vs LCD vs LED vs DLP...etc. Same with your audio setup, just about every single brand of audio systems from receivers to amps to speakers to subs are listed on here. Good luck.

First off -

ok, now:

I won't mention brands, but I would probably budget like this:

3000 - Projector
500- Screen (106" if at all possible)
1500 - Receiver
2000- Front left and right
500- Center
600- Sides, rears
800 - 2 subs
1100 - cables, mounts, power conditioning etc.

2000 - budget buffer (Maybe 1000 towards seating)

With those numbers, I'm pretty sure you would be grinning

Take your sweet time on this, and do a lot of research. There's a lot of good people here that can help you. Not me though.

But my real dream would be to hook up a great theater and projector. Get what ever license I needed to order official theater releases of new movies, and never again have to watch a new release in an expensive day-care (regular theater)

Sorry, a bit over the budget...

read through the posts and learn, that's what I'm doing - slowly.

And check out JJxiv1215's system

It's not ramming - it's that for $12,000 - that's too much money to put into our hands. Heck my budget was a few K under that, and I did research for 4-6 months before I made any purchases.

I agree, I'm moving back into my house (long story) and looking to over-haul as well. I move back in a month or two, but will probably research until next March. Probably $8000 budget.

Long time to wait but when I'm done -

Also - be sure to consider the "other factors" like room size, layout, paint color, decor, lighting - they all add to the Experience. And beware the weakest link.

I just dropped about that much. What I can tell you is to look at your local high end dealers. Two in my area were going out of biz and I got some kick ass stuff cheap ! Go to a high end speaker or amp website and click on find dealer to see what is in your area.

If you are starting from scratch you have to go 2.35:1 and make sure you're 3d proof get a 120hz projector!

you have a screen, but aren't sure of the size....?

Do you know for a fact that it's NOT a 4:3 screen?

I don't want to throw out specific brands for everything, but I think

Projector ~ $3,000
L/R/C ~ $1,500 each ($4,500)
Four Surrounds ~ $400 each ($1,600)
AVR ~ $1,200
Subwoofer ~ $1,000

That would be a good distribution in my opinion.... but it depends on what you value most

If I were personally going out to start from scratch with that budget (but already had the PS3) I'd probably get this setup for speakers alone...

B&W 703's 2 @ $1,600 each
B&W HTM7 1 @ $800
B&W 686 2 @ $250
B&W 685 2 @ $300
ED A-5 350 1 @ $800

Then spend $3,000 for a projector, and another $1,000 or so for an AVR, then plan on some speaker stands etc.
