do the research yourself, you'll feel better about your purchase. If you have read all that you can about systems, then ask about specifics your about ready to pull the trigger on. What your asking will turn this thread into a war of people on opposite ends of components and what they specifically own. There are piles of threads on this very website that you can learn the difference of plasma vs LCD vs LED vs DLP...etc. Same with your audio setup, just about every single brand of audio systems from receivers to amps to speakers to subs are listed on here. Good luck.

First off -
![]() ok, now: I won't mention brands, but I would probably budget like this: 3000 - Projector 500- Screen (106" if at all possible) 1500 - Receiver 2000- Front left and right 500- Center 600- Sides, rears 800 - 2 subs 1100 - cables, mounts, power conditioning etc. 2000 - budget buffer (Maybe 1000 towards seating) With those numbers, I'm pretty sure you would be grinning ![]() Last edited by Grevlin; 04-09-2009 at 03:29 AM. |

But my real dream would be to hook up a great theater and projector. Get what ever license I needed to order official theater releases of new movies, and never again have to watch a new release in an expensive day-care (regular theater)
![]() Sorry, a bit over the budget... ![]() read through the posts and learn, that's what I'm doing - slowly. And check out JJxiv1215's system ![]() Last edited by Grevlin; 04-09-2009 at 03:38 AM. |

nobody is "ramming", whatever that means, we are only suggesting that you start reading, and getting that mental picture yourself of what you want. Nobody can do that for you, only yourself. We can all contribute to specifics and help with personal testimonies, and that's the beautiful thing about this website...but you need to take the first step. Again, this isn't bashing, it's just prompting you to take ownership of what may someday become your pride and joy.....or as I call it, my "money pit". It never ends...

Stick with the $12,000 budget, and this is how you spend it.....
$2000 (Home Theater) Then you take your wife, girlfriend, or find a willing woman. Make sure that she is beautiful on the inside. Then Spend $10,000 making the perfect wife. Boob job, lipo, etc. Then you will have three great things to enjoy! ![]() |

Here is what I think.
There are two kinds of home theaters; those that home theater enthusiasts build themselves, for themselves; and those that people with money have built for themselves. This site catters to the former, and I think people are just trying to steer the OP away from becoming the latter. Ultimately, you will get out of your home theater what you put into it. If, to you, the only thing you want to put into it is the money, then that can be fine. If this is the case, plenty of knowledgable people can steer you in the right direction, but will be unable to make decisions for you, because that requires expertise on your home theatre's layout, design, and functionability. As such, custom installers are better suited to make those decisions for you, and will provide you with what you want, regardless of how it has to be done. If, however, you want to invest yourself in home theater, as a hobby, a project, or a passion, then you cannot do away with spending at least hundrers of hours pouring through reviews, information, and testimonials. At the very least, you alreayd have a plan, and you already have some equipment. Great! Now, you need to look to what kinds of set-up lend themselves to that equipment, and then narrow down exactly what your budget should focus on. Are you looking to blow most of your money on the best projector you can afford, because what you really want is picture? Or is the projector an afterthought once the best audio gear is hunted down? Even then, are you looking at monoblock amps to take up most of your budget, or a higher-end AVR to take care of everything? The possibilities, literally, are endless. Regardless of what anyone tells you, including me, your home theatre should be just that; YOURS. As others have said, you will get an immesurable amount of pleasure from knowing that you participated in every aspect of your home theater, start to finish. When you sit down, and press play, every minute you've spent building your own dream should unravel just as you want, not as I, or anyone else, would want. /rant Last edited by Trix; 04-09-2009 at 05:02 AM. |

Should be able to get a Paradigm Studio 100 System and Marantz SR8002 for about that much.
Insist on about 20% off of MSRP. Paradigm took prices off their site a while back, but Marantz still lists theirs. |

for a projector i would look at jvc, they make top notch products at a great price. I have the polk lsi seris that i would highly recomend, but then you would need ALOT of power to push them. I have a rotel amp and i love it. Everything in my sig cost around 6800 without the tv. That would leave you with pleanty of money to get yourself a jvc DLA-RS20U and stay in budget.
