Default BRING BACK THE WAR PLEASE!!(BLU vs HD)

I find that now I only come here for maybe a few minutes every other day just to read reviews or see what new stuff is going on the world of blu, but back in the heyday of the format war I would spend at least 2 to 3 hours on here every day just to see what was going on and skimming the forum for any rumor or anything else that was "insider news". What a waste of time, but boy was it fun. The rush of adrenalin when some big name electronic dude would back blu and the feeling of anger when a studio went the other way. I know now we are supposedly still fighting against DVDs or downloads but it is just not the same. Sorry to drone on but that is my 2 cents.

One of the Toshiba software techs had told me that Toshiba is actually restrategizing HD-DVD. I almost lost my s##t when he told me that. I was really distraught, it was so out of left field.

I think it is a little too late for that. What movie studios do you think will support them now?

Well nobody bought into the XDE scam(except one poster at HDD), so I'm sure they are still strategizing ways to stall Blu-ray. Seems to be all they have left.

That is a funny article. My favorite part is he bases some of Blu-ray's victory on the fact that people like the color blue. Plus this guy makes it seem that Sony invented Blu-ray after the Xbox 360 came out as a way to try and compete. Because apparently a technology like Blu-ray can be invented and manufactured in the span of a year.

Yeah, that guy is a little -- shall we say -- misinformed and misguided in his "argument." I got a kick out of it. I almost joined just so I could respond to it, but my guess is he/she doesn't go there very often to stand behind his/her side of the debate. Plus it's just a waste of time anyway. I'm too stubborn to give in to the fact that Blu is WAY BETTER and is here to stay, and I'm sure he/she is the same way about that format.

True.. but the best part is they are still buying blu's.. Of course they are *****ing about it as they fork over their $$ but they are contributing to blu-ray's growth

Blu-Ray curb stomped HD-DVD like Ed Norton did to that guy in American History X. Toshiba marketed HD-DVD all wrong; I mean it was cheaper but there was no real affiliation with other companies besides like LG making the Super-Blu player while Blu-Ray has several backing them on players. If they really wanted to make a sweet deal, they should have sold the HD-DVD movies for about $15 a pop rather than $30 - $40 and by the time they dropped those players down to $98, it was too late and then two months later they accepted defeat.

I honestly have my doubts if it was cheaper.

I mean seriously, a Blu-Ray from Warner {or Paramount when they were both} costed brand new about $30. One of the HD-DVD flippers cost $35

The $98 Toshiba HD-DVD players were a myth, a myth every HD-DVD fan who stuffed his hand down his pants whenever Toshiba told him too repeated vehemently. They were a discontinued player being sold at a Toshiba firesale.

Well it is true

And yes HD DVD's were actually more expensive on average.. All the rhetoric of HD DVD's being less expensive to produce, blu-ray 50GB disc impossible to make according to one MS Amir M. (make that ex MS employee. head of thee viral marketing department.)...

So why were they more Why were they working on a TL HD DVD 51GB (still wasn't going to solve the massive bandwidth disadvantage) when they supposedly had enough space.. Then again MS has touted 8GB as being enough, lol

MS baited and used Toshiba.. they could have done a crapload more. Toshiba thought they had support that really wasn't there. Toshiba was smart trying to get MS to integrate an HD DVD drive into the MS 360..when MS declined they should have simply joined blu-ray like all the other manufacturers or simply done nothing. Instead they got duped into half ass support from MS who simply wanted HDM to fail in general. Thankfully MS's plan was a miserable failure. And of coure Paramount was rewarded with another desperation move from Toshiba, too little to late

They players weren't actually any cheaper until they got desperate.. They stated at $500 (not even 1080p players) and went well up to $800 right off the back..

edit: Oh yeah XDE is here (Toshiba's new answer, go back to SD and claim to be as good as HD DVD).. How is Toshiba doing with that, what's there market share
