Default HDMI 1.3 changed my life

Of all the features from the 1.80 update, HDMI 1.3 deep color was the most important. All TV's are now supported and HDMI is truly 'Full HD'.

The ps3 with HDMI used to be washed-out, and 1080i on my 720p was just bad...However, now that they enabled HDMI 1.3 deep color, I am having a whole new experience. The blacks are so black, the colors have a loud pop, and the whites glisten. This isn't sugar coating either, it's amazing.

You know the PS3 is good when the Resitance: FoM game menu looks more amazing than any xbox 360 games. Also, there are no human words to describe Apocolypto on blu-ray with deep color & super-white enabled. I guess Sony was focusing on video playback first, since it's most relevant, and they did a hella sweet job.

I couldn't imagine HDMI 1.1 & 1.3 could be so dramatic. Did anybody else notice the difference even with the XMB background?

The 1.8 update did not add HDMI 1.3 support. Yes, it did add full color (deep blacks), but the other full color option you're talking about has to be supported exclusively by your monitor, currently is only supported by Sony displays.

About x.v.Color

When [Y Pb/Cb Pr/Cr Super-White (HDMI)] is set to [On], video content from AVCHD discs recorded in x.v.Color can be played with a wide color scale.
Notes
A TV that is compatible with x.v.Color (xvYCC) must be connected using an HDMI cable.
An AVCHD disc that was recorded in x.v.Color must be used.

The x.v.Color logo can be found on devices that support "xvYCC," which is an international standard for color space in moving images. An advantage of x.v.Color is that it can reproduce a wider color scale than the conventional standard.

"x.v.Color" and are trademarks of Sony Corporation.

It did not add deep color support as specified by the HDMI 1.3 spec.
Deep color is 30-bit, 36-bit and 48-bit (RGB or YCbCr) color depths, up from the 24-bit depths in previous versions of the HDMI specification. Blu-ray and HD-DVD doesn't even have this in their spec. So you can have all hdmi 1.3 equipment and you still wouldn't get deep color

Now what we got is Blacker than Black and Whiter than White due to the full color RGB enables
instead of getting an RGB output signal in range from 16 to 235, we are now getting RGB output signal in range from 0 to 255. So RGB(0,0,0) is BTB and RGB(255,255,255) is WTW
