I am in the middle of re-setting up my theater and just built an in wall rack for all my components. The potential problem is my TV and subwoofer now need new power cables of about 25 feet to run through the wall/along the wall and then back up to the top of the power conditioner in the rack.
Is there a "problem" with running a cable this long for two components like the TV and subwoofer. I could plug them into a near by outlet with the regular cords but they would not be on any surge protection/line conditioning. I am looking at a 14AWG power cable replacement from Monoprice and fingered the thickness would be good enough for that long a run, but just wanted to get some opinions on safety of equipment and any drawbacks to usage of equipment. Thanks |

I would purchase an additional power-conditioner and save on the price of the additional power-cords, and be protected for future upgrades in the process.
Otherwise I'd think some of the benefit of the power-conditioner would be lost due to the length of the cords anyway..... But I'm not sure. |

I just installed a powerbridge in my hometheater - MUCH shorter run, simply wall-mounting an LCD. I LOVE the powerbridge setup. VERY clearn, VERY easy to install. AND, it's legal! Running a typical power cord is not up to code in most places. Check out my gallery - to see the install. Simply have to run a length of romex cable through your wall, and wire up the two ends of the powerbridge. Everything's very clearly labeled on the back of the outlets, and goes together very easily. How do you know what AWG to buy when replacing a power cord? I am looking to get a longer power cord for my Sammy LN46A650 because the 6ft cord it came with is not long enough to run through my mantel that I have the TV mounted above. I am looking to get a 10 footer. Any suggestions?

If you are running power through the wall you need the powerbridge or something similar. Just for reference though, standard romex wire for in the wall is 14 gauge, and that is used for 15 amp circuits, so anything less than that and 14 gauge wire would be fine.
