Default New onkyo 607, 507 and 307 annouced.

Quote:
March 12, 2009 | by Steve Crowe
Onkyo has added three home theater receivers (TX-SR607, TX-SR507, TX-SR307) to its lineup, including the “world’s first” with Dolby ProLogic IIz processing.

The TX-SR607, a 7.2-channel receiver with Dolby Pro-Logic IIz, adds a vertical aspect to the sound with left and right channel front height speakers above the main speakers.

Each model supports Blu-ray and other HD A/V source components, 1080p resolution, Deep Color, and x.v.Color.

They also feature:

Audyssey 2EQ calibration to correct frequency and time domain in each channel’s output
Audyssey Dynamic Volume technology to optimize the dynamic range at any listening level
Audyssey Dynamic EQ to fix problems with reduced sound quality at low listening levels
Onkyo also included four gaming modes: Rock, Sports, Action, or Role Playing to match the listener’s experience to the gaming content.

The TX-SR607 and TX-SR507 have HDMI repeaters and Dolby True HD and DTS-HD Master Audio. Both also offer new proprietary rear-panel universal port to simplify connection to the HD Radio Tuner and iPod Dock that will be available in late spring.

The TX-SR607 also has dual subwoofer line-outputs and upconverts analog sources to HDMI via Faroujda DCDi technology.

The entry-level TX-SR307 has HDMI pass-through switching on three inputs.

The 5.1-channel TX-SR307 and 5.1-channel TX-SR507 have 65- and 80-watts per channel, respectively. The TX-SR607 is rated at 90 watts per channel.

MSRP:
TX-SR307 — $299 (March)
TX-SR507 — $399 (March)
TX-ST607 — $599 (April)

This is exciting news! I really did not expect to see another new product line out of Onkyo so soon. It's also nice, because I was just looking at upgrading my 705 to the 706 or the 806, now I guess I'll just wait to see what the 707 or 807 have to offer.
I imagine we'll be seeing announcements for those in a couple months and probably see releases in mid to late summer.
Though I have to admit the 600 series has really started to shine, but for some reason I like having that THX stamp on my reciever. I know there's not really that huge of a difference, but it's just nice to know there are some extra options under the hood.
Nice to see dual subs taking center stage too. sure both the 707 and 807 will offer this as well!

Honestly, I've been looking at the 805's, and there's nothing here to make me think I should wait. More HDMI slots, dual sub-outs and... that's about it. PLIIz is not something that gets me excited.

Am I missing something? Almost seems like a rollout just to have a rollout (and thus keep prices up).

the 706 came out quick imo after the 705 was released and the 706 lacked some things i needed/wanted that the my 705 has. i saw no reason for an upgrade. interesting to see what the 707 will be like. dont know about keeping prices up, i see it as getting a good deal on a second receiver (older model) down the line

i like the dual subwoofer output (.2) but my 806 is doing me just fine.

what else can they add to make me upgrade? whats left....lol

i dont care for upconverting my sources to 1080p as i use the through setting on my 806 for video.

"Dolby Pro-Logic IIz, adds a vertical aspect to the sound with left and right channel front height speakers above the main speakers. "

I wonder if the folks over at Yamaha have thought about doing something like this?

Oh yeah, its called "Presence" and its already on their receivers.

I had read this elsewhere... pretty much forces my hand at this point. I was waiting for a hot deal on the 606 or 706... but the way I see it... in a month when the 607 is out, it will either be awesome and warrant the price increase, or it will be little improvement over the 606... in which case I can hopefully find a hot deal on a 606 when they move them out to make room for the 607's... either way I guess it's worth the wait.

This has been posted on Home Theater Magazine's website:
http://www.hometheatermag.com/news/031209height/

Little bit of info on the 607 and the new DD IIz processing.

9.1 set-ups (actually I guess you could go 9.2 with the dual sub option)

When will it end?

Aramis, doesn't the 805 also have a pre-out? I thought it did?

Official Product Page from Onkyo.com:
http://www.us.onkyo.com/model.cfm?m=...s=Receiver&p=i

6 HDMI inputs! 5 in the Back and 1 upfront (handy for notebook PC and such). 90 watts per channel.

Hope they change the hook-ups for the higher speakers in the 707 and 807 models, I don't care for the clips too much. Other than that the back looks surprisingly lacking of inputs, I guess cause of the 5 HDMIs.

Default Onkyo first to release new Dolby Pro Logic IIz

What do you guys think? It's a new surround mode that add's two new vertical channels above your mains.

UPPER SADDLE RIVER, NJ (3/12/09) – As the first installment of its 2009 product line-up, Onkyo has introduced three new home theater receivers, including the world's first to offer Dolby's new ProLogic IIz processing, which can produce sound effects above the listener's head. Theses models, which range in price from $299 to $599, also include an array of advanced HD audio and video technologies from Onkyo, Dolby, DTS, Audyssey, Faroudja, and others that were previously only available at higher price points. The TX-SR607 features six HDMI inputs, and is the first AV receiver with a front-panel HDMI input.

With the debut of the new TX-SR607 receiver, Onkyo has the distinction of becoming the world's first manufacturer to launch a 7.2-channel home cinema receiver featuring the all-new Dolby Pro-Logic IIz mode. Designed to take home cinema sound to new heights (literally!) DPL IIz introduces a vertical aspect to the sound field through the addition of left and right-channel front height speakers mounted above the main speakers. Based on the initial positive reactions to demonstrations of this technology to dealers, Onkyo anticipates good demand for expanded height channel capabilities in future models.

"We are very excited to be the first audio manufacturer to utilize this exciting new surround format from Dolby," comments Onkyo USA marketing manager Paul Wasek. "It adds a new realm of audience involvement in three dimensions, with surprise aircraft flyovers triggering the 'duck' reflex. Onkyo has launched this technology on our most popular AV receiver, rather than our most expensive, in order to reach out to a much larger customer base. The company's premium receiver lineup, which will roll out over the Summer, will include expanded height-channel capabilities, internet radio and network audio technologies at lower price points."

These new models are well equipped for Blu-ray and other HD audio and video source components, with HDMI repeaters plus Dolby True HD and DTS-HD Master Audio processing in the TX-SR607 and TX-SR507. The entry-level TX-SR307 has HDMI pass-through switching on three inputs, while all three models support 1080p, Deep Color, and x.v.Color.

All of these receivers use Audyssey 2EQ, an automatic calibration system which corrects each channel's output in both frequency and time domains based on measurements at three unique listening positions, Audyssey Dynamic Volume technology, which optimizes the dynamic range of listening material at any listening level, and Audyssey Dynamic EQ, which corrects problems associated with reduced sound quality at low listening levels.

Onkyo has also developed four new exclusive gaming modes designed to enhance the listener's experience when using video game systems. Players can select from Rock, Sports, Action, or Role Playing game modes to match the gaming content. These new modes will immerse all the players in the action like never before.

The Onkyo TX-SR607 and TX-SR507 are the first to use the company's new proprietary rear-panel universal port, which simplifies the connection for Onkyo's forthcoming HD Radio Tuner and iPod Dock that will be available in late spring. The 5.1-channel TX-SR307 and TX-SR507 have 65- and 80-watts per channel amplifiers respectively, while the 7.2-channel TX-SR607 is rated at 90 watts per channel, has dual subwoofer line-outputs, upconverts all analog sources to HDMI via Faroujda DCDi technology, and is Sirius Satellite Radio ready.

The Onkyo TX-SR307 and TX-SR507 will be available in March, and the TX-SR607 in April with suggested retail prices of $299, $399, and $599 respectively.

Onkyo, which takes its name from the Japanese "On" meaning 'sound' and "Kyo" meaning 'harmony,' has been producing precision audio components for over a half-century. The company's philosophy is to deliver products that are superbly designed and built to a consistently outstanding standard of excellence. Today, Onkyo is at the forefront of the home theater and digital revolutions. For more information about this and other fine Onkyo products, visit www.onkyousa.com or call 800-229-1687.

For those of you who do not know what Dolby Pro Logic IIz setup looks like, go to A Guide to Home Theater Codecs. There are a couple of diagrams there.

So I guess this explains why 606's are out of stock everywhere I look then? Amazon still has them, but for $450.

seems pretty cool, but not upgrade worthy IMO, espeically since thats pretty much all they changed. dual subs is nice, but still no preouts, still the same power, and i like the current remote better. But i guess this means i have to wait for the 807 now and hold off on the 806. err..

It may be a little different than presence. Since it is a Dolby format... one would assume they would release the algorithms to studios who would care to incorporate it, so it MAY be more accurate and less "matrixy." We'll just have to wait and see.

The new line also has Dolby Volume and the 607 has SIX HDMI inputs including one on the front for easy hookup.

As far as I know, 807, 877 and 907 are not the numbers you should be looking for.

Onkyo has placeholders for the TX-NR1007 (likely the 806 replacement), TX-NR3007 (likely the 876 replacement) and the TX-NR5007 (which could be replacement for the TX-NR5000/TX-NR1000). All of Onkyo's "top of the line" Receivers will likely be Network Receivers

With the power handling of the 805, top of the line PCM1796 DAC's (found in the $5,000 Denon 5308CI and $5,000 Yamaha RX-Z11) and direct DSD to analog decoding, it's no wonder you're still looking at an 805.

It's an absolute beast for audio and has incredible two channel and multi-channel capabilities whether it's vinyl, Super Audio CD, DVD-Audio or even Blu-ray Disc you're listening to. The benchmark tests show extremely accurate response with the kind of THD that you get by going to Marantz and Denon.
