Hey hey-
Parents are coming over, and I want to show off the new surround sound! They've already seen blu-ray visual stuff, so purely looking to show off sound. Got it narrowed down to two: 1.) Spider-Man 3, the fight with green goblin or 2.) King Kong: The dinosaur stampede. Sound is 5.1, so 7.1 dosen't enter into it. Thanks! |

I'd say go with King Kong and the scene with the dinosaurs, as well as the Empire State Building finale. Very dynamic! Parents always seem to love classic movies (or maybe remakes of classic movies - YMMV).
![]() If you have Kung Fu Panda, the Tai Lung escape scene launches amazing, pristine audio all the way around the room. |

Well King Kong was pretty amazing as was SP3 but my choices for sound show-off are:
Incredible Hulk - Campus battle (Hulk vs. Army) Live Free or Die Hard - Highway assult (Helicopter fly-bys are awesome) Any concert (personal fav is The Who: Kilburn) I myself recently got a sweet sound system so I have been enjoying the beauty of HD sound. Anyways, enjoy your system and you can't go wrong with either title you have suggested. |

Well i'm a little bias towards SP3 because my kids love it.My 5 year old loves the movie and wants to watch it every other day.My 1 year old just sits on my lap and tries to follow the sounds from each speaker. She reminds me of a cat the way her head keeps turning during fight scenes.Myself I like Live Free or Die Hard,Black Hawk Down or any POTC movie.

depends what impresses you about audio..... many feel Bass=good audio..... I think the detail in Ratatouilli is incredible...... I think bass really pulls you into a movie also... but I think many people pollute their rooms with over-bearing bass because they think more is beter..... which isn't a good thing....

i say transformers
![]() but of the two king kong, many scenes sound great if i was to go for spidey i would actually be using the scene where the model shoot is happening and the giant beam crashes through and if it was bass you want to showcase i would use the scene where the sand dude gets his powers, that machine sounds crazy. but then again for bass i would also be busting out transformers or in your case king kong |

yes... it is, but I'm referring more to the fact that I like to try to accurately reproduce the audio engineer's intent.... I just find the level of bass seems to pushed too much by some....
If you like the rustling of leaves in Pan's Labyrinth you wouldn't adjust the rear surrounds to +10 just to accentuate it..... or at least I wouldn't ![]() If someone closes a car door in a scene.... I don't feel like I should have the impact of bass felt in my chest as if a plane just crashed..... EDIT: sorry taking it too far off-topic... either way... for the OP... if you're audience will be impressed by a fast, accurate, and intense scene of bass.... King Kong certainly has its share..... for more detail and subtle sounds that you normally don't hear from t.v. or DVDs.... Spiderman is a good one.... but again... I think Ratatouilli is great for it..... but King Kong has good detail in addition to bass. Last edited by Beta Man; 03-18-2009 at 06:01 AM. |

Well, everyone has an opinion. I think the best response to the OP's question was "Why not both?" If there is only time for you to give them one demo, then I think you should show Spiderman.
I will also say, that if you do not have it, but want to make a really huge impression, pick up the Blu of Master and Commander and just let it play from the beginning through about the first 10 or 12 minutes. As Darth Vader would say..... "Impressive.... Most Impressive" |
