Default Bolt and The Bugs Life audio display issue

When i played Bolt and The Bug's Life movie onto Panasonic DMP-BD35 blu-ray movie player , Onkyo 606 receiver display DVD ES Matrix instead of DTS HD Master.

I checked the setup of both movies the DTS HD Master 5.1 audio option is selected.

I don't have any display issues with fox or universal blu-ray movies DTS HD Master audio. When i play fox or universal movies onkyo 606 displays DTS HD Master.

Any one had this issue? any suggestions.

Thanks.

Typically, the first order of business is to check to see if you have the latest firmware installed in your Panasonic player, which often resolves disc-specific playback issues. Outside of that, let's hope for additional responses.

Do you happen to have Wall E? These discs are actually supposed to be in 6.1 sound, but then fold down to 5.1 for 5.1 systems. It sounds like the discs that have the fold down feature are acting up on your system, but I am just guessing...

I just tried WALL-E blu-ray, the Onkyo receiver displays ES MATRIX . Looks like your guess is right.

Do i actually get DTS HD-MA?

You need to find out if you have a "DTS Essentials" decoder.

On my 905, if I bitstream these titles from my Panasonic BD30, I only get DTS-HD MA 5.1, if I let my PS3 decode it, I get DTS-HD MA 6.1 (which is ES matrixed). Same thing also happens with T2: Skynet.

How do i find if i have DTS essentials decoder?
BD-35 audio set to Bitstream. It means the issue is with onkyo 606 decode?

I can only think of one possibility here since you haven't mentioned it.
Are you using a HDMI 1.3 cable?
You need a 1.3 cable before you can bitstream a raw HD audio to your receiver.

Edit: Oh darn. You have no issues with other titles.
I guess you could try contacting Panasonic and see if this is a common issue.

After reading this thread I decided to see if I could help

Pulled my now retired Panny BD-35 out of the closet. Hooked it back into the system via HDMI.

Here where my settings.

BD-35 bitstream output. Firmware Version 1.9
Onkyo 606 is set to PL II movie.
Speaker arrangement is 5.1.

Bugs Life displayed as DTS-HD MSTR 5.1
Bolt displayed as DTS-HD MSTR 5.1
Wall-E displayed as DTS-HD MSTR 5.1

I've owned my Onkyo 606 since June 2007 with no problems decoding of the Hi-Def audio formats via bitstream.

The only thing I can think of is checking the Onkyo Menu under option #5: Listening Mode Preset and see what your settings are for that HDMI slot for DTS-HD MA. I have all slots set to Master Audio.

P.S.----Make sure Secondary audio on the BD-35 is set to off. That might be the cause of the problem.

USually it's either that the player or receiver can't decode it (not the case here) or that you've got the audio running through the TV which causes it to downmix to a stereo output or not use DTS at all. As mentioned, make sure secondary audio is off, and make sure the 606 has the audio passthrough setting via HDMI set to OFF.

I don't have any issues with Fox or Universal movies DTS-HD MA audio. So far i found audio display issues in these 3 Disney movies..

Looks like others also have same issue with these 3 movies in 0nkyo 606 and BD-35 or BD-30 , i noticed cpl of threads related to this issue in avsforum and avforum.

With the exception of X-Men: The Last Stand, there's no 6.1 ES releases from Fox or Universal (and that particular title is ES discrete, not matrixed), that's the reason there's no problems with those titles.

6.1 DTS-ES Master Audio releases that I have:
Bolt
Wall*E
A Bug's Life
Monsters Inc.
Terminator 2: Judgment Day - Skynet Edition

As I said: 5.1 only bitstreamed to my 905, 6.1 from my PS3.

I think I may have asked this before... But are you sure the Disney titles are discrete? I know T2 is, but I am wondering if the others aren't supposed to be matrixed and that's what's causing the issue.

Unfortunately it's difficult to tell (that DTS Essentials nonsense), I'm thinking it's matrix center surround, because X-MEN: The Last Stand is 6.1 bitstreamed and these aren't.

On my setup, T2 is 5.1 bitstreamed, so it's probably not discrete.

On the flipside Dolby TrueHD 5.1 EX (6.1 matrix) bitstreams just fine, but the PS3 doesn't acknowledge the flag.

On another note for those with PC playback: PowerDVD 9 doesn't acknowledge the flag for either EX or ES matrix, only discrete.

PS3 was never able to detect and decode Dolby Digital EX. But bitstream should not be a problem.

Btw Peter, is it possible to add an EX flag on a Dolby TrueHD track?

'The Clone Wars' includes a Dolby TrueHD EX track. So it says in the back-cover and that's how my Onkyo reads it: DD TrueHD EX

So, the answer is: Yes, It's possible.

Yep, along with The Perfect Storm, and the last 2 Austin Powers films.
