lots of members have brought this up before in feedback. the forum is a collective place to hold discussions, you can PM if you want to send someone a specific message or start a private conversation, and members have the option of including their Yahoo, AIM, etc accounts on their profiles so others can real time chat with them via those respective programs. I definitely think a real time chat room would be an interesting addition, but I don't see a need for it imo or foresee it happening anytime soon.

I think the idea of a chat room would be a very very very bad idea. I've been in chat rooms too many times.

I personally think a chatroom wouldn't work for a site like blu-ray.com for the simple reason that our discussions get very in-depth. This is not condusive to chat.

As Sussudio deftly alluded, we already have the option to have our Yahoo/AIM/whatever screenname in our user profile. I think from there, if people wanted to congregate in a typical IM chat room, that would be fine/cool. PMs could be sent amongst interested parties and a chat room could form from that, through a typical IM service like AIM or MSN...

I personally don't see the advantage to having this hosted by Blu-ray.com if for no other reason than I could see a chat room quickly turning into a flamefest. Blu-ray.com has a standard to uphold befitting to the format it supports. I think that integrity would quickly be lost if we had chat room function. You'd see people join just for the purpose of wrecking shop in the chat room, and that would be lame.

good call. plus i'm guessing it would be much more difficult for the mods to mod a chat room. people could basically type anything they wanted and someone would constantly have to be monitoring for insulting, rude, offensive, etc remarks if they didn't want it to get out of hand. i think the forum serves its purpose quite well.

Last time it was brought up it was determined that this version of vbulletin can't do it and it'd be impossible to moderate.

I don't know anything about this software but I think someone mentioned a while back that there are a lot of addon features used now and it can't be upgraded.

I don't really know how it works but I know on a phpbb I used to run, all of the stuff I added was third-party written and was version specific and couldn't be plugged into the newer versions.

There's always that 1 person sometimes 2 that can't help but ruin it for everybody on those things.

The newer Vbulletins have those club chat rooms. Like I can make one for Blu-ray Kings and invite only those to chat. BUT! There public. So anybody can view them and somebody might get upset about something we say and report it. So I don't see it happening.
