Problem with Panasonic BD30

I have been enjoying my BD30 for some time now. In the last few days it has developed a problem. When playing any Blu-ray disc many of the functions on both the remote and player itself will not work. Stop, pause, play, top menu command, all will not work. Open and close works. When a disc is inserted and the drawer closed the player starts to play, but the functions I listed will not work. I can access the setup menu and everything looks ok. I even tried setting all the player settings back to factory default, but that did not eliminate the problem. Interestingly, I tried a burned movie on a DVDR and all of the functions worked. I was not having a problem before I updated to software version 2.8. I would appreciate any suggestions.
