Universal Studios The Expanse: Season One (2015-2016)

I don't usually start threads but this comes out today and searching "expanse" in titles came up empty. Anyway, it comes with a shiny slipcover with raised letters and UV copy:

Now in 2023:

Complete series Pre-order. 15 discs

The Expanse: The Complete Series Blu-ray

I watched episode one and loved it, but waited for BD to watch the rest (since I think cable video looks terrible).

Haha you and I might be the only two people on here who bought this thing today. I really love the book series and quite enjoyed how the show's adapting it. The slip looks great but I'm pretty disappointed by the lack of special features. But regardless the show itself is awesome and worth owning, and I wanna support it so I was happy to purchase.

I just worry low sales might push sci-fi to release future seasons digital only. Let's hope not.

Never read the books. First season was pretty decent. Started off slow but really picked up later on. Got exciting when Holden and crew finally met Tom Jane's character.

Sci-Fi (I refuse to call it that other stupid ass name) already renewed it for a 2nd season so here's hoping it's even better.

Yeah, the price was a bit more than I wanted to pay but selling the code offset that a bit and I really wanted to support it so Syfy keeps treating the show well. Season/book one is good but the series gets so much crazier and I'd love to see it on screen!

As it's on syfy, i'd be more concerned with it being cancelled after season 2 or 3.

These two reasons are why I didn't buy it. I enjoyed the show, but $33 with almost zero special features is too much, since I won't be rewatching the show anytime soon.

The slip is nice, but the price is just too much. Maybe when it gets below $25 I'll consider.

Yeah, that's understandable

I bought it as well. I wasn't sure I was going to, but the fact that 3 other titles I wanted to buy this week weren't carried by any of WM, BB or Target in-store made that decision easier. Also the nice slip, and that there are/were several people in the Trade thread actively wanting to buy a copy.

Btw, the person I sold the UV copy to said that he couldn't get it to redeem except on the site listed on the paper slip: UPHE.com/Redeem I don't know where he attempted to redeem it, but I thought it worth mentioning.

I was a bit wary going in, and still wasn't entirely sold in the first 2 eps., but by the time I had watched it all then I was very pleasantly surprised. Definitely some great stuff, and I'm sure binging will only make it better. I hope that you, and everyone else, enjoys it too.

I haven't seen this show yet, but I've heard good things about it. Definitely going to check it out. Seems like the Sci-Fi channel, sorry.. SyFy, is starting to get some good programs again after all these years. Recently I've been watching Dark Matter and The Magicians and really like them. I also checked out Killjoys, but didn't like it so much. Next up will be The Expanse and maybe 12 Monkeys.

What are everyone's thoughts on these SyFy series?

Based on everyone's posts here and reading the Amazon reviews, I just did a blind buy on this.

I loved this and will get it at some point.
That reminds me I also need to get the BSG collection at some point.

Funny, I thought about opening a thread about the blu-ray at the weekend, but didn't get around to it.

Absolutely the best new serie I've seen this year. I've read people compare this to B5 and BSG; I wouldn't go that far yet, but who knows where season 2 will bring us?

Still hoping for a UK release; the US price (with shipping and import tax) is a bit high. If this release had been packed with special features, I already would've ordered.

Might want to try Wow-HD - I'm waiting for my copy to arrive, got it for £28.

I love this series - It was a fantastic first season, hope they can keep it up!

It was a good first season. I binged watched OnDemand last week, finishing the series in under 7 days. It's got a BSG like feel with the set design and the visual shots of space (I wouldn't be surprised if the same VFX firm was used) but the story isn't at all similar.

It's more akin to a cold war in space story which was prevalent though the 60s-80s. I was pleasantly surprised to see a well known character actor mid-series. I will buy if this hits $20 or under to support the series. The SyFy OnDemand was not too visually appealing.
