Default Comcast and the nfl network

Looks like they will be dumping the channel as of May 1st, so which service is better dish network or direct tv? And does anyone have the hd turbo package?

Unreal that comcast would fall on it's own sword with this, they stand to lose a huge portion of subscribers if this is allowed to go down!

And no Verizon has failed to realize that there is more to Massachusetts then Boston like most other things in this state. They cant even tell me if they are planning to have fios available in my area, at the rate Verizon moves we will never have fios here so it's not a option unfortunately.

I have DishNetwork with the HD Turbo and I love it. The only reason I would think of switching to DirectTV is for the NFL Package.

Hm i thought they both carried the NFL package? Why does the NFL allow this exclusivity crap, it should be on ever cable, sat or fiber service out there! That would be more money then direct tv is even worth, makes no sense!

The whole NFL Network and Big10 Network issue with Comcrap is the whole reason I dump them for DirecTv 2 years ago.....I pay less for alot more HD channels on top of that. Couldn't be happier.....

I work for Rogers in Canada, we get lots of complaints and the odd cancelation because we do not carry TSN2. If TSN2 was showing something I really wanted to see, I'd switch cable companies in a heart-beat... but for now I don't need to see the B hockey games and the raptors lose on a daily basis.

Direct Tv payed top money for it.. lol.. it's exclusively for a few more years. and cable companies suck because they wont carry NFL network because they want the nfl package..

While Comcast will lose customers due to dropping the NFL Network, they would lose a ton more money if they actually caved in to the NFL's demands for the NFL Network. The NFL wants to get paid among the top cable networks, near ESPN and CNN for a network that 99% of customers don't want. I am a huge NFL fan and get the NFL Network and it is pretty pointless other than the days they show games. They also won't let it just be on a digital sports tier, as they would get less subscribers that way.

Actually a fair amount, i just talked to someone i know at comcast to see what the deal was and said they have been cancelling scripts all day long. This is big patriots territory so yes a lot of business will be lost if comcast axes the channel.

I talked to a Comcast rep about this and she claimed they were dumping NFL Network due to they want more money. To be honest I aint upset about it but I also found out that Comcast may dump KARE 11 as well in my area and they are owned by NBC. Unfortunatly I live with my parents and they wont allow me to get Direct TV or Dish Network because of they dont want a satellite reciever on their house so I will have to wait until I get my own place in the spring of next year. But rest assured I wont subscribe to Comcast when I am on my own.

Comcast wanted to keep the current deal (sports tier) and the NFL rejected that proposal, saying that didn't reach enough viewers. There is some bad blood between the NFL and Comcast. In 2004 Comcast was told they would get to bid on the NFL Sunday Ticket Package and then the NFL renewed with DirectTV without letting Comcast bid. Then Comcast tried to bid for the Thursday night package but the NFL decided to keep it and put it on NFLN. It doesn't help either that the NFL just renewed with DirecTV for the Sunday Ticket through 2014 without opening up the bidding.

This is 100% correct, NFL network wont let it be a paid tier, and they also want top pay of that like ESPN. Im glad to see truth be posted, course you didnt post evidence :P but I know cause I have read it

It's also looking like NFLN is going to lose Adam Schefter when his contract is up in August. He hasn't written a new column on nfl.com since February 26 or been on TV lately and it sounds like his asking price is much higher than the NFLN will pay. It's a shame because he's up there with Jay Glazer when it comes to breaking stories.
