Different Settings for SD content vs hi-def?

I'm still learning how my new TV operates and I came across an interesting sight today.

My first HDMI input is for the receiver, which houses a PS3 and a DVD recorder. I adjusted the settings, and I'll say that everything coming from there looks excellent. Blu-ray movies have exceptional sharpness and clarity, and the color is very intense and without bleeding and blurring. PS1&2 games played on it looked great too.

The Component input where I keep the PS2 is a lil tricky. Sometimes the images on PS1 games seem to vibrate, and while it is standard def and all, it lacks the intensity and sharpness of the other channel. When I connect the PS2 to my parents TV when I visit them, an SD Mitsubishi tube TV, with an S-Video cable, it looks great with both types of games: text is very solid and easy on the eyes especially. I should think my plasma TV, a Panasonic 850U should be capable of just as good or better with component cables. The other weird thing is that the Brightness and Sharpness settings seemed to have little effect on the picture.

If this belongs in the Panasonic Settings thread, go ahead and move it there. That being said, I was curious if optimal settings for a PS3 through HDMI may not be so perfect for a PS2 through component.
