Default HDD's Peter Bracke: studios should give high-def exclusive titles and content

Bracke said that at a panel discussion during the Highdef 2.0 conference.

From Home Media Magazine:

Quote:
Bracke suggested studios “play hardball” and stop releasing DVDs in conjunction with a high-def release.
His point is more fully explained on thedigitalbits:

Quote:
Pete further suggested that the only way high-def packaged media will ever really take off is if the studios eventually begin phasing out DVD (the way the record industry phased out LPs back in the 1980s), or at least start releasing certain titles and content only in high-definition.
I'd love that to happen, but realistically I don't think this is likely to happen because studios would be giving up huge short-term revenues to promote something in the long term. In the current corporate arena this is very rarely the case.
