Default Warner Studios -- Callin' you out for better Blu-ray support!...

Would you agree, the funny thing about Warner's painful lack of good titles on Blu-ray is that so many of these titles they released on HD DVD would appeal more to the Blu-ray crowd? Why? Think about it. With the PS3 being such an effective Trojan Horse for Blu-ray, you have to know that the majority Blu-ray capable players in homes today are PS3s. Can I assume Hif Def junkies / Gamers have slightly different tastes in movies? I'm guessing for Blu-Ray it's a bit of a younger, more web-saavy / sci-fi, type audience, no? If so, is it a stretch to think that titles like... The Matrix Trilogy, V for Vendetta, Batman Begins, Se7en, and Constantine wouldn't sell way better on Blu-ray? Warner, why not go nuts on Blu-ray with these and other titles? As compared to other studios, The Warner catalogue lends very nicely (if not best) to the Blu-ray demographic, I'm thinking.

Well Warner, even if you're not prepared to give Blu-ray some love, be it known from the Blu-ray camp, you obviously make some great High Def transfers, and I'd buy every single one of the aforementioned titles the day you would release them on Blu-ray. I'm betting "300" is a more anticipated release on Blu-ray...

I was sooooooo excited to see that '300' was coming to Blu-ray. In fact, I pre-ordered it, then forgot I had done that and pre-ordered it again!

HAHA! I'm getting one of the copies replaced with something else.
I agree though that the movies you mentioned above would (and are) more appealing to a younger crowd. I would pick up all of them, and i'm only 20 yrs old.

As you can see from my collection, it's growing and growing. No end in sight anytime soon.

Default Warner Studios -- Callin' you out for better Blu-ray support!...

Goodness! That's a nice collection, man! Again, BD titles of what I'll call 'Warner quality' are (and/or are soon to be) Casino Royale, Kingdom of Heaven, Ghost Rider, and Hellboy (latter two I'd recommend adding to your list of stuff to purchase, ...that is, if you like 'Warner quality' titles). By your list, I think I'll make a point of picking up Layer Cake and Apocalypto - thanks.

But man, would I be pumped to see V for Vendetta or Batman Begins on Blu-ray.

Come on Warner, seriously man, get with the program. Give us some of that good stuff...

Have Warner just started maxing out the higher capacity and bitrate of Blu-ray with high-bitrate VC-1 like Disney or did I dream the last several months?

Actually, i think its just the opposite. All sorts of people are buying PS3s, not just gamers, and a lot of them are buying it solely for its Bluray capability. So the PS3 is more of an 'everyman' device.

And I think we all know the ONLY people buying HDDUD players are the Xbox people...

Yeah, technologically, you'd think Warner has even more reason to go Blu-ray, though I'm not sure how much truth there is to claim HD DVD is easier to code??

And I don't think there's much comparing PS3 to Xbox -- sure they're both good for games, but the PS3 hits the sweet spot as a more complete and aesthetically pleasing home theatre / entertainment piece. PS3's way ahead of its time. The latest firmware that adds upscaling, just made the PS3 the must have all-in-one. High Def gaming, music, pictures, upscaling DVD, Blu-ray, streaming, and HDMI 1.3 out of the box... come on man, DAMN...

You might want to ask Penton-Man that question regarding VC-1 encoding.

I think the delay for the IME stuff is the need for a secondary video decoder...

Blu-ray will be seeing more love from Warner once they manage to incorporate IME.

All those titles will be released on Blu-ray that aren't already and the ones with TrueHD like Batman Begins, Troy, V for Vendetta, Perfect Storm, etc., will all have PCM, TrueHD or both.

Titles that were big ones may see a remaster as well. I think you'll see Superman Returns later this year being replaced with a PCM/TrueHD version, but that may not be until closer to Christmas.

300 will have TrueHD and PCM on it, so Warner have been reading the forums and the e-mails and they know that Blu-ray fans want lossless audio.

Hard to say who the target audiences are, but the in-practice actual audiences as I see it are for Blu-Ray, movie lovers, and for HD-DVD, insane fanboys or normal ppl who don't want to wait for Universal/Weinstein.

Would be good to get a transparent picture transfer for Superman Returns as well. Seems the first one botched it.

That's reason I bought mine in after the new year....I had holiday money and I was like...HD DVD, or a PS3? Being the same price as an hd dvd player, I went with the 20 gig PS3 because that was like adding a free personal gaming computer to an even higher def experience. Kind of a no brainer. And now we get upconversion too.
Back to the point with Warner... I'm 24(in june) and I'd buy every one of those titles you names, but I also love alot of the classsics like Enter the Dragon, Blazing Saddles, and the Original Superman collection. I think it'd great to see a nice mix, unfortunately Warner seems to be holding out on us for some of the better looking newer movies. i.e. Matrix, Batman Begins, etc..

If you look at Letters from Iwo Jima, it got the same treatment on HD DVD and BD and both are of excellent quality. Finally, a TrueHD soundtrack on both formats!

Agreed. Superman and Lord of War are the weakest of the limited Blu-ray titles I own. For Superman, I expected better from Warner, but I've seen both Batman Begins and V for Vendetta on HD DVD and both titles definitely have the 'wow' factor. I'm expecting to be blown out of the water by 300; I'm sure 300 won't disappoint.

On that note, (and that of Warner's titles) anybody seen the Matrix Trilogy on HD DVD yet, and/or read any reviews? How do the transfers look? Impressive? Worth looking forward to on Blu-ray?????
