Default Why run a blu ray movie in 24hz???

Why does my tv want to run a movie in 24hz instead of 120hz?? Isnt 120 supposed to be better??

maybe there is a default setting you can change? Or the movie was produced in 24hz? Sorry... I'm not really very good with display info

120Hz is your TV's way of playing back 24fps material.

No worries! Everything is A.O.K.

Film runs through a camera at 24 frames per second, or 24 hz. Your TV has a refresh rate of 120 frames per second, or 120 hz. Depending on your make/model (info would be useful), there are many ways these can interplay.

As far as your tv "running" a movie at 24hz, I assume you mean that's what your display is saying. This only means that the TV is receiving a 24hz signal from your player, which recognizes your TV's 24hz capabilities. So, the movie is still technically playing at 120hz.

As far as how the 24hz is getting to 120hz, that depends on your settings. If you have frame interpolation turned on (MotionFlow, TruMotion, etc.), then the tv is taking each of the 24 frames per second, and interpolating 4 frames in between each pair, to give you a total of 120 frames. If the interpolation is turned off, it is repeating each frame 5 times, for a total again of 120 frames.

The advantage of the former is "smoother" action, from having more frames. Drawbacks become the fact that many will argue the motion to be unnatural and artificial looking. The advantage of the latter is that you are receiving the movie at the resolution it was shot and produced in, meaning you are seeing it as close to the master copy as possible. You are also bypassing any 3:2 pulldown (some motion interpolating software still performs it) which can introduce judder in the image. The drawback is......your tv doesn't say 120hz? But, regardless, given that your panel refreshes at 120hz, it is giving you 120 images per second regardless. It just depends on how you're getting them.

Hope that wasn't too complicated. I still keep forgetting I'm not answering in an editorial style on here...
