Default 50" Kuro or 60" other brand?

Hi

Buying a new tv in the next couple of days since i just sold my old one for $5000 the question i keep asking myself is, Should i get a 50inch Kuro or get a 60-65inch Panasonic or Samsung for the same price?

I know how everyone says that the Kuro is #1 in PQ, but for the same price is it better going for the bigger screen? My seating is about 6ft from the screen.

I would go with the 58 panny and have about half the money left over for HT equip or movies

Who buys a used tv for $5k?

Either way, i'd go with the Kuro.

Well, since you got $5K for your old set (what's up with that?), I'd go the best of both worlds and get a 60" Kuro Elite Pro-151FD (or a 6020). You can find 'em for ~$4K these days, maybe a bit lower if you look hard enough. Otherwise, I'd get a 58" Pany 800U or wait until this fall and get the 58" Pany V-series.

You could go for the Kuro Elite 50" and still keep 2Gs in your pocket. Just an opinion ofcourse!

What is MOST important to you?!? Picture Size or Picture quality?

If it is PQ, buy Pioneer.
If it is Size, buy the BIGGEST you can afford.
If it is BOTH Size & PQ, then most definately buy a 60 inch Pioneer.

Last year I was going through the same thing you are now.I was going in stores and just staring at the panels until my wife would finish shopping. Finally I chose the pro 151 and have never looked back. Now that pioneer is getting out of the plasma business i'm thinking of getting another one.So if you are thinking of getting a pioneer now is the time because they will not be around too much longer.

I love my Sammy 58", but I'd go with a Kuro if you have the $$. Of course you could get a cheaper set and put the extra $ toward your audio setup.

Haha,

The TV i used to have was JVC HD-Z70RX5. A pretty decent tv, 70inch however only 720p. I had it for about 3yrs. I sold it to a dude who was new at work (army) only 18yrs of age.

And you're right.. there is a sucker born every minute! He didn't even argue the price.

Yeah, after talking with the girlfriend, I'm thinking about going for the size over the pioneer. It would be nice to get the 60" pioneer, but that's just too expensive for me

In that case I'd say go with the 58" Panny TH-58PZ800U for less than $2500 shipped on Amazon. Its the best non-Kuro TV you will find for the money at that size. If you want the biggest TV you can get with a great picture then the 63" Samsung PN63A650 is $3100 shipped on Amazon. You can also look at the Sharp LC65D64U 65" LCD for just under $3200 shipped on Amazon.

Keep a look out for the Pro-151 or Pro 141 because I've seen it as low as $5000. As they become harder and harder to find this would be your best bet. It's like a Shelby Mustang. The Panasonic would be the best bang for your buck if you want to save money. The extra cash could be used for a lot of things i.e (Audio, blu-ray, and hookers).

One thing i forgot to mention, I'm in Australia $5000 would be a very good price for that TV however, once it's converted to aussie dollars, it gets outside my budget

However I like the idea of blurays and hookers

Now it makes a little more sense. Your $5K price tag on your old set was actually ~$3,600US. Still a lot to pay for an older, non-FP display.

Couple things.....

you may as well get a 60" Kuro, because with your apparent luck, you'll be able to sell it for $10,000 3 years from now

In all honesty though...... YEAH.... get a good quality set (6' isn't very far either ) for $3,000 or so, and INVEST IN SOME AUDIO GEAR..... you'll have a gorgeous display.... just get out of the HTIB now, and let the upgraditis take over from there.

haha, yeah i really did get lucky with the sale of my old tv I did end up ordering a new TV. I decided to go against getting the Kuro and got a Samsung 63" The left over money will go towards getting a new receiver for starters.. then maybe some new speakers.
