Default 60" Kuro Elite vs 58" Panasonic V10

I thought I had this all figured out. I know all the stuff about how good the Elite is supposed to be, but since they are not making them any longer, no real reason to labor over that. So that left me pointed towards a Panasonic 58" V10. Had a bit of a hard time finding one to look at, but I finally did. To my amazement, they also had the 60' Pioneer Elite Kuro setting beside it. WOW! The Panasonic looked really, really good..... but the freakin Pioneer looked amazing. Now I see what everybody was talking about. The Panasonic was about half the cost.... but I really think I gotta have the Elite. Is the extended warranty and the calibration worth the extra cash?? I have the DVE Blu-ray and did a great job adjusting my current TV. And the warranty.... I am wondering why pay so much to get the best TV and then pay even more in case it craps out. Doesn't seem logical to me. Any thoughts on that? Thanks.

The Pioneer Elite comes with a in home 2 year parts and 2 year labor warranty. I never was one for purchasing extended warranties but some people like to purchase them just in case something breaks after the 2 year period. Pioneers have an excellent build quality.

Video calibration is good to get for the maximum picture quality performance on any brand display. The Elites have more calibration controls versus non Elites.

it depends on if you are willing to spend that money for the LX609 - imo i would rather have quality.... but to me picture quality is very important... i saw this tv today - WOW extremely impressed - i think if my current tv died tomorrow i will get getting the LX609 - but i would like it at least 70".....

The model I am getting is a Pro 151FD. I am just debating whether to also get the warranty and custom calibration.

I don't know what the calibration consists of that cannot be accessed by myself using the DVE disc.

The Elites also come with a 2 year factory warranty. SO I am having a hard time justifying the large cost of an extended warranty for an additional 2 years.

There is ALOT that a proffessional calibrator can access through the service menu that DVE cant touch. People have said that having thier Pioneer Kuros calibrated provides amazing results. I plan on having my 101FD calibrated in the new year

OK. Done deal. The Kuro Elite Pro 151FD gets delivered Saturday morning. It was a pricey sucker. Not sure if I got a good deal or not and not sure it even matters at this point. Ended up forking out $6300 beans total for the TV, 4year warranty, pro calibration and sales tax. MSRP was $6500 so I feel like it was an OK deal. I saw lower deals on line but I wanted to buy from an approved Pioneer retailer and somebody I can look in the eye. The Blu-ray demo on this set in the store looked like nothing I have ever seen before. I am like a kid waiting for Santa to come now!

x2 - prepare to be amazed! And then again(!), about a month later, after the phosphors have been broken in. I have the 50" 111FD and still can't believe how good it looks after five months of use. Congrats!

If there were no kuro's , I'd get some V10's but I would not trade any of my 4 kuro's for anything other than 3-4th Gen OLED 50-60". Till then I'm set. It's nice to have the BEST of somthing. good choice on the 151. Congrats.

How much was the TV alone? you probably could've got that calibration for free. did you do any negotiating at all?

Anyway, congrats on the TV.

Are you getting the calibration done by Best Buy? If so I just read about this horror story a member of highdefjunkies.com had with their BB calibration , It seems the calibrator was only at the person's home for 20-30 minutes. The calibrator did not even go into the TV's service menu to make any adjustments. Long story short, the customer is extremely dissatisfied with the job they did and is currently trying to get a refund. I think he paid $300 for it. for an extra $75 you could get a calibration done by Chad B. Just trying to help

My local BB said none of their GSquad were qualified to do it. They contract it out with an ISF certified tech. Or at least that was the pitch I got. I think they are pretty good. Last Saturday, they showed up at my door on schedule for the delivery. The delivery guys said.... sorry sir, we have bad news. I said what? They said your TV did not get here from the warehouse. I said then why are you here? They said we brought the floor model for you to watch until yours gets here. Today they called me and said it was here and they are delivering it tomorrow morning. I think that is very good service and they seem very credible to me. So I am also trusting them to do the calibration right.

Oh yes. I did negotiate. I got $1500 off msrp on the TV and got the $300 calibration for free. The 4 year warranty was full price though.
So full price was $6500 TV + $300 calib + $790 4yr warr + $750 tax = $8340.
Actual price I paid, all in, was $6300. I am sure better deals can be found, but I was fine with that.

Well, that was nice of them to bring the floor model to you in the mean time There isn't any more A/V Stores to compete with BB anymore in my area, so BB's customer service took a serious shit after there were no more competitors in their way. But Anyways, Enjoy your new TV
