What was the name of this "one store"?
This may be slightly wrong, but there are a large percentage of consumers that don't know what Blu-ray is, and when they heard DVD mentioned, they are more drawn to it.

ok, u r not gettin the point!!!! I didnt really wanna waste too much of my time explainin this, since I've already contacted SONY Japan, and I've been exchangin emails with them!!!!

the reason why it's illegal cuz it's a faulse use of the trade mark Blu-Ray Disc, and just like someone said, lot of ppl dont know what Blu-Ray is, this might demange the knowledge base for later consumers, and if many ppl think it's just another DVD but cost more, then SONY would be losing a lot money!!!!

Blu-Ray Association can easily sue them over this, we just need to bring this to their attention!!! and that's why I am postin here, to bring this matter to ppl's attention!!! I love SONY too much to see stupid ppl out there F up this!!!!

looks like ppl on this site can't really contribute to this matter, so it doesnt really matter then!!! but thanks for posint!

Well considering that DVD = digital video disk and is an optical storage medium, Blu Ray does fall into that broad definition.....

NO NO NO NO NO!

It does not mean Digital Video Disc. It means Digital Versatile Disc and always has. Digital Video Disc is a term that seems to have been adopted by people across the world (and is therefore quoted on some websites as such) but it's always been 'Versatile' as it does more than video.

correction was made by another post, so here is the point.

DVD is a thing on it's own, and Blu ray uses different tech, so it's only reasonable for SONY to use Blu-Ray disc rather than Blu-Ray DVD, and also when u look at any Blu-Ray Disc proper brandin, or official website, u'll notice there is a little "TM", yes I am talkin about Trade Mark, but not puttin the right name out meaning voliating the law for faulse usage of Trade Mark, u dont need to take Law 101 to understand this, PPL!!!

anywayz, SONY is goin to contact this retailer, it should be resolved soon.

My local BB had a "Samsung HD DVD player" (that is, an HD upscaling player for DVDs).

The store should correct it. But, expecting retailers to be fully tech savvy is always going to lead to disappointment.

And, I suppose the DVD Forum could go on a witch hunt against the retailers that didn't follow tight rules, but then they wouldn't gain many friends at a time that HD DVD desperately needs them.

If Sony is upset about it, that is good. I'm surprised. But, I guess now Blu-ray wants to start clearly distiguishing itself.

It shouldn't matter much.

It's just a name. It's the disc and its content that's more important
