Default New PS3 question

Hi guy's This is my question. I just purchased a new PS3 80 gig. I want to purchase planet earth for it but I've read on amazon that some of the people with new PS3's are running into problems trying to play disc's. Things like won't read disk, freezing up. I here the older PS3's play it no prob. Does anyone have any answers for me on this. Thanks!

iv never heard those problems, i have the series and it plays flawlessly on my 80g. I think the people that might have had problems are those with the first generation of blu ray players that dont have up to date firmware

Dude seriously(not trying to be mean) but if you bought a PS3 and you're afraid to play discs on it, why'd you buy it? Just play or watch something and hope for the best. I've had mine for almost a year and it's given me almost no problems. Good luck!

Sounds like he bought the ps3 then read about the problem. But I would assume that the problem is firmware like stated above. Just make sure it's hooked up to the net and get latest update should be fine, if your really worried rent it first see if it works.

I have the 80 gig version and it plays Planet Earth and ALL my blu ray flawlessly! Only reason I can think of other people having issues is if they don't upgrade their firmware.

I guess I should have made things a bit clearer. The disc I want to play is planet earth, that's the one some people have had trouble playing and messing up their PS3's. After more research I've found that the disc is regional. ie. if you have a US model Playstation you need to use region 1 disc. I don't want to put in the wrong region and jam up the playstation and then have to send it to sony for a refurbished one. Was just tryig to get a little imformation to prevent a mishap. Don't mean to sound like a dick but I don't do things hoping for the best, that can get expensive.

If people with the 80 gig version is having issues with their PS3 other than a firmware update is it could be their lenses is damage due to dirt, dust..etc. I always vacuum my PS3 air vents and keep it free from dirt. Also, Planet Earth comes in 4-5 discs, are you referring to having trouble with ALL the discs or just single ones?

It won't jam up your PS3, it will just tell you that its the wrong region.

The UK Blu-ray of Planet Earth is region free the extra's (which is a DVD) is not. Get the US version if you want the exrtas.

The US BBC version is 4 discs and does not have any extras. I think only the UK version comes with 5 discs.

According to my research, the UK BD is a 5-disc set and Region Free. The Australian version is the same as the UK, where all five discs are BDs. The fifth disc has two documentaries that are not part of Planet Earth - Desert Lions and Snow Leopards.

Quote:
From Amazon UK: Regrettably this release does not have the original DVD extras: the 10 minute "Diaries" at the end of each episode and the 'Planet Earth - The Future' feature (2h56') and people felt let down. The "Dairies" are interesting and the message on the state of the planet is of course important and the BBC underestimated the viewer's sentiment. But the extras included here, Dessert Lions and Snow Leopards (the subject of DVD episode 2 "Diaries") from the BBC's Natural World in HD are interesting programmes in their own right and more amenable to repeated viewing.

Good point, plus the UK is David Attenborough which is always a plus in my book.

Thanks you guy's. So is will the UK. version play on my US. model? I'd rather listen to R. Attenborough rather than Sygorney Weaver.

Both the US and UK BBC version is narrated by David Attenbourgh. Only difference is the UK BBC version have the 5th discs extras. The US Discovery version is 4 disc and narrated by Sigouney Weaver and contains less footage then the BBC version.

IMO, you should get the US version with David Attenbourgh.
