Default Issues with UPS & Amazon (Prime)

First let me apologize if this isn't the correct forum. I looked over all the forums and felt that this probably needed to be here.

To start, I have been an Amazon Prime member for roughly 4 months now and overall, I love it. It's totally worth the 79.00 USD yearly fee. (It pays for itself after just a few orders.)

All of my Prime orders have been shipped via UPS since joining.

The last three (3) orders that have been shipped has been a total nightmare. Just yesterday, UPS left my 350.00 worth of BD's sitting on the side of the road by my mailbox. Now keep in mind, my mailbox is roughly 600 feet from my house. Just anyone could have pulled up and taken it after they delivered it. I was at home the whole time given the fact that I was off of work yesterday.

The two (2) other orders before that were delivered to a vacant house approx. 1/4 mile away. To give you an idea, my mailbox is stamped with the address and I also have one of reflective blue signs by my driveway with my street number on it as well and yet, UPS still screws it up.

As a courtesy, I called Amazon today and had spoken with someone probably located in Bombay, India and informed them of my latest UPS fiasco. The man was very apologetic even though I explained to him that is wasn't his fault and that he couldn't control what UPS was doing.

I told him that UPS was damaging their business by pulling stunts like this and to just imagine if it happened to him.

I called UPS to register a complaint and when I speak to the CSR and inform her of wanting to file a complaint, I get disconnected.

I called UPS again and got a different CSR and informed her as well that I wanted to file a delivery complaint. When she asked why, I explained the situation to her and she stated that the drivers were not required to deliver the packages to your doorstep and that I should have been looking out for said driver.

Reluctantly, she took my contact information down along with the tracking numbers for the packages and stated that a supervisor would call me within the hour. it has now been over 1 1/2 hours and I have yet to receive this phone call.

How do you think I should handle this? What would be my next avenue of recourse?

Thanks

Not much you can do since the UPS drivers are too lazy to go up to your house. You can file a complaint but you could never really prove them wrong without videotaping the driver leave it then when you do that they will say "Well you were home and saw the driver why should he bother taking the package to you?"

You need to call UPS headquarters since your beef is with them. Can the UPS truck make it up and turn around in your driveway? If that works out, then you should tell them the driver has permission to come up your drive

Google Maps has gotten in trouble for going up private roads, so maybe they're erring on the side of legal caution.

I called FedEx because their drivers weren't knocking on my door and just leaving hangers, so I had to stalk them all day to get anything delivered on time. When I told the guy "I will actually pay more to avoid using fedex", that definately got their attention. Suffice to say I rarely have any problems anymore.

If you get an Indian on the phone, hang up and call back when you call Amazon. They do have US cust service facilities. Nothing against Indians, but none of them are ever helpful because all they're trained to do is read off a script and follow a flowchart, they don't have either the ability(in terms of their job) or the background to deviate from that

My house is situated between two different streets. My driveway connects to BOTH streets. Hell, you can see the other street from the mailbox end of my driveway.

Not sure why you would even start to contact Amazon in this situation, as its out of their hands whether or not UPS leaves the package at your mailbox or your front door.

Amazon should have a Signature Required on orders over $XXX though, which would have UPS leave the package at the front door, unless its a Direct Signature Required. With Signature Required, Ive found out personally, that a note on the front door is legitimate.

Bottom line, its UPS thats getting you worked up. The only advice for you is to leave a note on the mailbox (to deliver to front door) when you know youre getting a package.

Im in no way blaming Amazon. I called to inform them as to what is going on. Hopefully someone will pass this information on to the shipping department.

If you were Amazon, wouldn't you want to know if your customers were getting screwed because of the shipping company that you contracted to deliver their goods was doing this kinda thing? I know I would.

It is UPS' fault PERIOD. I'm not arguing that. I just thought that Amazon may wanna know what's going on. That's why I called them.

I never said you were blaming Amazon by any means. My first contact would have been UPS, or even the UPS Local Sorting Facility.

I understand eventually contacting Amazon and letting them know about your concern, but I bet they have an account with UPS directly. Im sure its not going to get them to change to FedEx, but if... say 10,000 people a year have the same concern, I sure as hell hope Amazon will contact UPS.

Best of luck.

sry to hear about your problem...i had a similar issue with a random courier service Amazon uses occasionally to send movies to me and i did the same thing you did. i didn't call amazon because it was their fault, but i did want to let them know the service they were using was terrible (they would constantly lie about dropping off my package and would never leave an indication that they were even at my apartment so i had no idea if they tried to deliver anything to begin with).

i hope you get it sorted out, whenever ups delivers to me they always require a signature, but for my parents who own a house they don't

Tell Amazon that you really regret purchasing the Prime membership and would rather pay the extra to use FedEx and see what they say.

it's not amazon's fault

unless the orders are consistently taking longer than 2 days to arrive, in which case the OP isn't getting what he paid for

After years of dealing with UPS(personal and business), I know this: UPS doesn't care. As long as the packages aren't damaged, they won't do anything. And even if they are damaged, UPS can be a PITA to deal with.

As a whole, unionized labor has destroyed everything it's ever touched.

The US auto industry is living proof of that. The UAW has extorted the auto industry for way too long and now Americans as a whole are fed up and won't buy UAW junk. I know I won't. All of my cars (2 Nissan Maximas & Nissan Frontier) were made by non-union employees at non-union plants and they're the best cars I have ever owned.

You don't even wanna know about my nightmare with my brand new 1999 Ford Mustang GT.

With unionized labor, there is no accountability whatsoever.

The unions are here for one reason. Greed. The union reps don't care about the workers/products/services. They only care about the dead presidents (dues) and just how little work they can get the workers to do for the enormous salaries that the workers make. Judging by your location, I would take a guess that you're represented by a union? Am I right?

I too had a problem with UPS yesterday. I had 4 items coming separately from Amazon, total value of about $40. They always just leave the items at my door but for some reason they didn't yesterday. In the past I've had to sign for an item if it was big enough (Blu-ray players, receiver) but apparently the item I have to sign for this time is a $6 egg cooker. They also didn't leave a note so I could call their distribution center and pick up the packages. Hopefully today they'll either just leave the items or a note.

call the UPS 1800 national number and talk to an operator about having an "exception" placed on your delivery for the driver. They will enter it and it will come up on the drivers little tablet he carries that you've waived the signature/blah/blah. Have the tracking number handy...takes about 5 minutes.

I usually just get a note that it wasn't delivered and call the 800 number and pick it up at the distribution center on my way home from work because I drive by the distribution center on my way home but I may try that tonight. Thanks.

I have the same problem but I'm not amazon prime. My post office has lost my recent package from amazon. The confirmation number says a notice was left and to pick up package at post office but they have nothing there. They can't find my package and it's getting me upset..

For some reason, I had a package shipped FedEx from Amazon the other day. And then another order shipped USPS, that was supposed to be 2-day delivery because I have Prime. Maybe Amazon is trying different shippers and may be switching soon.
