Default So when should we expect BD players at the $100 pricepoint?

Just curious if anyone has any insight on this.

I'm happy with my PS3 but IMO people that are holding back are holding back because of price.

My guess is once blu-ray has 70-80% market saturation. So probably 4-5 years from now. The $200 players that are currently on or coming to the market will probably help a lot.

Wow now I feel stupid, can't believe they're going to drop that much that soon. Wonder how good these $100 players will be...

They'll probably be Memorex brand or Olevia. Take that as you will

"good" is a relative term to say the least. I will stick with my PS3 and my Sony 550 ! But if it opens the market a bit more all the better !

Yeah they did.. so we have already hit $130 in past.. so I don't see how we won't see $100 player this year.... I think the prices are falling faster than they did when DVD's were new.

There should be some $100 players available for purchase by September. The Sylvania is selling for $160 @ Amazon right now. http://www.amazon.com/Sylvania-NB500...9396186&sr=8-1

I do not think any player you would want as your main player will be available for $100 for another eighteen months. There probably will be budget players around that price for Black Friday doorbusters, but it will not be name-brands.

I got my insignia Blu-ray player for $125 in august 2008 it was a open box (player only). my universal remote works great on it. may not get down to $100 for a new player till 2011 when you can go in to any store and buy one at any time for $100. I'm happy with mine

I concur that this holiday season there should be some great deals. I would guess that Wally World should have some great sales on Black Friday and around Christmas.

The price of blu ray player will drop like a rock over the next 6 months. I wouldn't be suprised to see one at $50 on black friday 2009.

We are in a very serious depression right now with imports and retail sales falling off a cliff. These things can be mass produced in China really cheap as there are idled factories and millions of un-employeed in China right now. They need the work and the only way to get it is for the price to drop on consumer electronics.

EDIT: That said, I wouldn't even bite on a $50 DVD player a few years back because the one I had was a top of-the-line 2003 Sony model. I don't even know what the specs were on some of those $50 units because I already had mine and wasn't interested. Does anybody know if the $50 DVD players sold 5 or so years ago were any good (progressive scan, dts decoders, optical out, etc)?

It'll be better to save your money and buy a name brand blu-ray player. The generic brands are like disposable contact lenses. You get what you pay for.

Actually if you live in South Florida, Brandsmart is selling the Sylvania BD player for $99. The Samsung BD 1600 is a cool $246.
