friend bought an xbox elite, returned it for ps3 - Blu-ray Forum

so my idiot friend went to EB to buy a PS3.. well the chucklehead who worked there somehow talked him into buying an xbox elite instead.

He calls me and tells me this and i am dumbfounded. I go over to his house a few hours later and he is clearly disturbed. 'whats wrong'? I ask.

He replies 'This thing sounds like a jet plane when i turn it on and i cant get it to play this hd movie'.

It DOES sound like a plane trying to take off. Sucker sounds like 6 PS3's combined. I then tell my friend where is the 'hd' add on to play his hd movie... "the guy at EB told me i could play HD movies without any addition"..

I rant at him for doubting my advice then tell him everything the ps3 can do and that YES you have to buy a $200 add on to play hd movies that may or may not run. I mean it is MS people..

he took it back today and exchanged it for a ps3. Bought 2 blurays to go with and LOVES it.. hes a good guy just a little slow

just thought I'd share.

The smart thing to do is carefully explain the benefits of Blu-Ray in a good manner. As more time goes on, I am more keen with Blu-Ray.

99% of the people at Gamestop/EB don't know what they are talking about. They know that Halo is AMA3ING! and nothing can beat it EVER! I went down inquiring why The Show was only playing at 720p when the box says 1080p and my TV was 1080p. The kid just stood there and said, "well its cause Sony didn't include Component cables in the box, they only did composite." I told him I had it hooked up via HDMI and he just stood there like whats HDMI I luv da 360 and we dont have that. Then I demanded a new game and got it.

Technically, there are HD movies you can download from Marketplace. They can be played without an add-on.

I used to work at gamestop, same company as eb games, but every single person working there was biased towards the 360... they were always trying to talk people out of buying the ps3, i was the only freakin one who was actually for the ps3..

EB/Gamestop's are retarted. I get the "cheap" feeling when I walk in there. I feel like i'm getting ripped off just walking into one.

On a side note, I went to suncoast video yesterday to check out there BD selection. Holy crap! Can you say overpriced???

Guys that work at these places tend to be opinionated fanboy ********s. they do a disservice to their company and franchise owners becaus ethey ofetn put there own bias ahead of profits.

Just for the record, our version of The Show says it's playing at 1080p. I'll check again tonight, but I know that's what it said when my son was playing the other day.

Places like Suncoast, and even BB to a lesser extent, are why people use online so heavily.

I got the run around when I went to pick up one of my PS3s from Electronics Boutique (now GameStop). The guy wanted to play twenty questions and make sure I'd done my research so I knew ahead of time how unhappy I would be with my choice. To make it worse, this was the store manager.

So instead I walked down two stores and bought it from BestBuy. Their cashier was wanting to play twenty questions too. The difference is his questions were things like asking if I had an HDTV already and had picked up any BluRay movies yet... asking me which games I was interested in... all in all, a much better experience.

My Elite and add-on HD-DVD player work great. Personally, I think the Elite rocks and I'm glad I spent my money on it. I am still a blu-ray supporter and always go blu if I a movie is on both formats, but the 360 is an incredible gaming machine. Haters...
