~*~Hi, sorry if this is in the wrong place...please feel free to move as needed.~*~
My PS3 got hit with the RSOD. It really sucked because I was 12 days out of warranty and NO WAY Sony was gonna budge for me. Anyway, $158 dollars later, I get my PS3 (or replacement) back today...but what do I need to do? I assume all my saved games/trophies are gone. Is my network account still intact? Do I need to repurchase all of the LBP stuff we bought? How about the PSN games I bought for my kids? Sorry if these are newbie questions, but I guess I am a newbie when it comes to replacing my PS3. Any guidance appreciated. TIA |

Your game saves are most likely gone. Your trophies will still be there because theyre saved on the servers. You should be able to redownload any purchases you have made on the psn. Just log back into the psn with the same ID you used before.

Don't forget to contact Sony and have them disable the old system for your stuff, or you won't be able to redownload videos and your games will be minus one in the download count. Just set up your old account again on the new system, go to your download list in the PSN, and it will show everything you ever downloaded (except vids, I think). Then just pick what you want and redownload. Saves are gone, yeah, as are your Rock Band bands if you have that game. Can't get your old band back no matter what.

Removing the hard drive doesn't matter. When I sold my old PS3 for a new one, I took out the hard drive and put it in my new machine, but the PS3 couldn't read it because it was 'married' to the other PS3. I had to reformat it and I lost EVERYTHING. I was pretty mad, but hey, what can ya do? If you want all your data, you have to back up your system on an external hard drive, and then transfer the data onto the new PS3.

Pretty sure it says in in the manual. You must use an external drive to back up your info and then transfer it. Unless you have what happen to me. My ps3 blu ray died. ![]() So, I went out a bought a new one and hooked both ps3's up to each other and did the file transfer that way. In a couple months, I will get my older ps3 fixed. Then I have 2!!! |
