Arrow ABC Announces 12 Early Pickups

Of course "Let's save 30 reality shows, and still not know if we are picking up Castle" ASSJACKS!

ABC has just announced early pickups for 12 series, including six dramas we love: Lost, Grey's Anatomy, Private Practice, Desperate Housewives, Ugly Betty and Brothers & Sisters. (Renewals were expected for all of these shows but this official nod means the studio and producers can now securely start spending budget dollars on new staff and new stuff.)

On the "unscripted" side of things, look for more of The Bachelor, Dancing With the Stars, Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, Wife Swap, Supernanny and good ol' America's Funniest Home Videos.

ABC series that are notably not included on this early pickup list include Samantha Who?, Better Off Ted, The Unusuals, Castle, Cupid and Surviving Suburbia, but any of those series might still be picked up before the ABC upfront presentation to advertisers in New York City on May 19. (Scrubs is reportedly also under consideration for a ninth season, but a renewal is dependent on negotiations with key talent, so perhaps an early pickup is too much to hope for.)

Among those ABC shows ending for sure are According to Jim and Life on Mars.

Nothing too surprising there. Wouldn't expect them to announce pickups on possible bubble shows this early, and the shows they did announce pickups for were no-brainers, although I don't watch any of them, or anything on ABC other than Lost.

I watch Lost, Ugly Betty & The Unusuals.

Lost is great.

Ugly Betty is a lot like a soap opera and if it wasn't for America Ferrara I wouldn't bother watching it.

The Unusuals - I wasn't sure about this show when I first started hearing about it but then I found out Amber Tamblyn was in it. (Also a friend of America Ferrrara who both stared in The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 1 & 2 - both decent movies.) So, I've been watching The Unusuals ever since it first aired and I gotta say it's hilarious! Glad I decided to start watching it and hope it gets picked up for next season.

I agree, Mouse! The Unusuals is already my new favorite show after only watching the first 3 episodes. Plus, it's nice to see Jeremy Renner on the show every week! Seeing Renner on the show alone keeps me all the more excited to see him in "The Hurt Locker" this year!

If Scrubs is brought back it will be with a different cast and probably under a different title. More than likely, it will just feature to new interns and maybe a few old favorites. The series finale has already been filmed and the show as we know it is set to end.

I am undecided on the Unusuals, and was immediately put off in the pilot episode with the "hilarious look at cat killing" Animal cruelty is never funny to me and the shows approach on it was disgusting. Brutally murder every person you want, set children on fire, but leave the animals alone. Though I was positive before this show even started and am even more positive now this show WILL BE canceled. It doesn't have the stick around appeal or charisma that works for Castle, and even that is more than likely doomed.

Haha I figured most people would be pissed but I can tell you one thing, children annoy the hell outta me and some are truly evil. I never met an animal I didn't get along with.

You mean Nathan? And yeah that would be a first:

Drive - 6 Episodes
Firefly - 14

Not to mention he shows up on Buffy and it ends, lol, though that was the final season anyways. But if Castle makes it to 15 episodes it breaks his recent record!! Thought he somehow made it to 60 episodes with "Two Guys, a Girl and a Pizza Place" haha

Wow how did I put Nick. Yeah I meant Nathan.

I've never heard of that show and somehow it has both him and Ryan Reynolds. Woah.

Castle is good, I've heard the ratings are solid, and it's a murder show. If that doesn't get renewed none of his shows ever will.

I'm a big fan of Castle as well. I hope it gets re-newed. The cast is great, the stories have been all very interesting and the show is very entertaining.

Even though I've never watched more than bits of it, Castle does seem to be an entertaining show. I would have been more inclined to give it a shot if it wasn't for so many of my shows I already watch being on the bubble. If it gets renewed, I may watch it over the summer somehow.

Well to be fair, about 2 Guys and A Girl, it was kind of before Reynolds ever learned to act, lol. He didn't find his niche for a few more years. I watched it back when it was on and it just wasn't very good from what I remember. I'm sure Hulu might have it, they have everything on there haha. For Castle it's pretty on the bubble right now, last I heard was the ratings have actually been rather up and down, I will look for some facts to back that up, I just hope it gets picked up though

Here's what I found and pretty much confirms what I've said

Castle continues to drop from its premiere ratings, which were good enough for renewal. Last night it had a 2.2 overnight rating for the 18-49 demo. At that level, it’s going to be canceled.
