Default Sony Cuts Blu-ray Price; Is the PS3 Next?

Regardless if Sony cuts the PS3 price or not it is good that standalone BLU-RAY players now cost less then the PS3. It is cheaper to manufactory a standalone BLU-RAY player compared to the PS3. If one looks at DVD technology there are several DVD players around $50 and even some under $50 that have HDMI with 1080P upconvert. The PS2 which plays DVD-ROM games and DVD movies sales for $129. As time goes on BLU-RAY players will have a wider price gap between the more expensive PS3 machine. The PS3 machine will be attractive to people that want to play both HDTV BLU-RAY games and watch BLU-RAY movies. Those that are not interested in videogames and only movies will purchase the lower cost BLU-RAY players on the market

I think once some good games come out the PS3 will pick up a little more and maybe a price cut or an updated version with a bigger HD.

People keep talking about PS3 needing a price cut not because Sony didn't have it budgeted to have it that way but because people REALLY WANT IT!

Sony just reduced the price of the player. If Sony reduced the price of the PS3 as well, nobody will buy the player. People will get the PS3 instead. Price cut coming, but not this year.

since they started out at 599, I'd expect it to come down to 499 around october...and then for the 499 BD player to come down to 399 at that point...
