Default LCD, uneven back light

After about a year and a half of use, the LCD is starting to show what I believe is called Clouding. There appears to be patches or parts of the screen that are visibly lighter than others, especially around the corners of the TV and around the middle-right of the screen. It doesn't affect viewing habits unless dark scenes come on, it is quite noticeable to me anyways. Should this be an issue worth getting technical help for? We bought it at Best Buy and plan to talk about it. We are under their extended warranty.

Yeah, if you got the warranty, I'd get them to do something about it for sure.

Happened to my old Philips LCD. I fixed it myself by gently rubbing that portion of the screen with a screen-cleaning cloth. That worked a bit. And then, on a random whim, I laid the TV, screen down, flat on my coffee table (obv. with a blanket inbetween).

Somehow, that made the clouding go away completely for good. Not saying I recommend these methods, but they are what worked for me. Check out the AVSforum threads on LCD clouding.

Hmm...so i still have about 2 weeks left before my warranty runs out on my 40" A650. Do you think Samsung will cover the clouding problem?

My dad has/had the same issue with a 26" LG. Welcome to LCD. He took one look at my "Kuro's" & said "I want that! ", so I got my pop' a 111FD from BB for $2,500 out the door. He's in love! I'm gunna setup a calibration for him.

If Were getting a replacement, I'm getting a plasma for sure. My parents and I are looking at the new panasonics. At the same time though, last years panasonics were on sale. Sadly, the only ones available at our local bestbuy are the 80u models and the Pioneers are sold out. Should we wait until the new ones come out?

I'd register it on their site and open a service ticket if I were you.If I'm not mistaken, they give you an additional 3 months on your 1 year warranty if you register.Mind you that sometimes they take time but SOMEONE does call after awhile to check the status on your TV (If their service tech called or repairs done),I know this from personal experience. In some cases they will replace your set if necessary but they do take time....

To the OP, calling Samsung is the right course of action. As for replacing your LCD with a plasma, determine what display is best for you based on what it's primarily used for. Despite what some of the more biased members may say, both types of displays have their pros and cons.

Does anybody else find it beyond pathetic that somebody can become a FANBOY of a certain type of TV? xD I mean, i understand boycotting fanboys in the gaming world, or fanboys of a certain company, etc. ...but, a type of TV?

Sorry. I went off topic. I just find that... REALLY pathetic. >.>
