Default Pan's Labyrinth blu ray question

I have an old TV first off and I'm no tech wiz so if this question has an obvious answer I'm sorry
I just got the blu ray recently and in the very beginning in the shot when Ophlia is running through the underworld set and heading into the real world the picture suddenly turns very red, is this the TV or do I have a problem with my disc?
again sorry if this is a waste of time type of question....I have PQ related OCD so I'm just checking

What type of red are you experiencing?? Like complete wash out or just increase in tint gamma?

it's a bright red that seems to be replacing the shadows....it's sort of a hazy light red...and it's only in the beginning there...

I'm assuming your connected by component cables for best picture on your tv?

Ok, I just threw on the disc. I think I know what you are talking about. Pan's Labyrinth is known for its very warm color pallete with a strong emphasis on dark yellows/oranges as well as reds. Even on my calibrated tv, it's still very very warm, and vibrant on this color pallete. It could be a combination of several things.

Settings, such as tint and contrast, as well as gamma on your television. pre-set settings such as Vivid, Dynamic you should stay away from.

It could be the connectors you are using. If you are using a regular CRT television, this color pallete might get over exagerated with the settings you are running regardless of connections. S-video and 'bad' component cables could be interferring with other analog sources/cables and can allow reds to be crushed and bleed through the picture and only make the problem worse.

But if it's slight and almost looks like it could be red, but it's borderline questionable, that is normal and it's how it looks on my set.

oh phewww thanks...it probably is something like that...I do also have an old sony trinitron so it probably has something to do with that too...I'm hoping it's the TV...I'm also really not sure what settings I have it on...I've been playing with it but the red color only appears in this scene and not on any of my other discs...this helps a lot though...my OCD is assuaged

I'm glad I helped. If you have any more questions about this movie and the picture quality, let me know. It would also help if I knew how the tv was connected, what kind of tv it is.

I just remember when I had my APEX 'flat' tube TV, I would have reds bleed through the picture because of my settings and I was getting interference on top of that with my component cables (XBOX 360) and my S-Video cable (Stand alone DVD player at the time).

I'm not sure what the actual name for my connection is but it involves a red, white, and yellow tipped set of wires...the TV is about five years old which is a pretty big problem and I don't believe there is any other sort of special connection...it's plugged in near the wireless connection though...I'm waiting to find a good deal on a better TV
thanks again
