Default Just bought a Klipsch sub 10 and need help.

ok so i just bought this subwoofer and hooked it up. i have it at 0 phase and crossover at 100hz. i have the sub volume at about 75% and did a mccac sound test on my pioneer sc-05 and it set the sub to -9.5 db. this left virtually no bass except from the towers. so i manually put the sub to -3db instead. but still not much bass. help!!!!! what does everyone set their subs to usually?

Drop the crossover to 80Hz and see what happens.

You also may want to relocate the sub to a different location and redo the MCACC.

Turn the phase up to 180 !! & it would be best to have the sub A couple feet from any walls !!

  • On the back of the sub, turn the crossover to its maximum point. You will set this in your receiver's menu.
  • On the back of the sub, turn the level to 60%.
  • On the back of the sub, set the phase to zero.
  • In the receiver's menu, make sure the subwoofer and all speakers are turned to ON.
  • In the receiver's menu, set all speakers to SMALL.
  • In the receiver's menu, set the HIGH PASS FILTER (crossover frequency) of each speaker about 10Hz to 15Hz higher than the stated low end frequency response of each speaker (this number is stated in the speaker's manual or the manufacturer' website).
  • In the receiver' menu, set the HIGH PASS FILTER of the subwoofer to 120Hz.
  • Run the calibration program again.
You can adjust the settings slightly if you don't like the results of the calibration, but don't overdo it.

i have the pioneer elite sc-05 i did a lot of what you mentioned. im not understanding where i change the "high pass filter" of each speaker including the sub as well. the overall setting for the crossover is at 80hz.

Maybe you just need more sub. That Sub 10 is not so good of a sub. I think you might be better off taking that back and looking at getting a sub from an ID company like Elemenatal Designs, HSU, SVS, or Epik...

Not sure how much you spent on that sub. But if you give me a price range you are willing to spend I can make a recommendation or two.

i got if for 279.00. i have a shit ton of bass now, it shakes my house. now i am in my tweaking stages and thought maybe all the crossover settings would enhance everything. i switched my towers to "small" and that alone was amazing. does switching to small take all low frequencies away from the center and towers? or does it just take super low frequencies away?

good to hear
i have a 10" klipsch ksw 10 sub....it replaced my onkyo htib sun and i am very happy.

plus i only paid $100 for my klipsch sub!!

small will have a let the speakers have a crossover.
anything below the HZ you designated will be cut off
for my system (including sub) everything is set @ 80hz across the board

Some receivers let you set the crossover frequency for each channel separately. For example, in my HT my tower speakers are rated down to 34 HZ but I set the crossover at 50 HZ and my Center is rated to 48 Hz and I have the cross over for my Center set at 60 HZ. My surrounds are all rated down to 54~62 HZ and I have all my surround channels crossed over at 80 HZ.. with my LFE crossed over at 80 HZ

I have the same sub and it totally shakes the walls , I have it set at 80Hz any louder and its a bit much.its an awesome sub...... if you paid 280 for it , now that's a steal. I paid close to 400.00 when it first came to market.

Cool

I have the same sub, and never have had the guts to turn up
more than maybe 3/10 of the dial. I love it.

I tend to not like visits from the Leo,s.

Some receivers allow you to set the crossover (high pass filter) of each speaker in addition to the crossover (low pass filter) for the subwoofer. If your receiver does not allow this, increase the crossover from 80Hz to 120Hz and see if you hear any difference.

Move the subwoofer to a corner and increase the level on the back slightly. Keep the crossover on the back of the sub to the highest point. If your main seat is in the middle of the room, move it to a different location and see if it improves the sound. Subwoofer location and your main listening position are the primary factors in determing the performance of your subwoofer.

If you put your head close to the sub, do you hear any sound? Is it low or high?
