Default ps3 placement

I'm kinda tight for space in my ht for now. I was wondering if I could place my ps3 on top of my cable box to save space temporarely. Or would this be too much heat.

The recommended placement of a PS3 is on a level surface in a neutral(temperature wise) part of the house with a clear 4 foot radius around it.

Well to be honest I doubt you do as well but the point is clear space to keep it cool and to keep from obstructing the fan so you don't overheat your PS3 to the point that it bricks.

I think that would be a situation where it is considered ok since your bottom Blu-ray doesn't give off heat from the top like a cable box.

I have mine standing vertically behind the right side of my LCD. I actually love it there. I have little kids so this keeps it "out of sight" for them. I also like to keep things simple and hidden and this works well that way too. I also had limited space so this is what I did.

I've got mine in its own little spot which gives it ample room, but when I get my power console im going to put the ps3 on top of that, which isn't much of an issue, my ps3 came with a cooling fan which is pretty neat. RRP $30

May be a little ot, but my PS3+everything else got the room they are in so hot I ended up getting a PAC for that room. (Personal Air Conditioner) I've been through 2 PS3 lasers and I'm leaning toward the fact of excess heat being the couplet. Those PAC's are a very good idea though, wish I had known about them earlier. It was fry in a room and don't wake up the house or ventilate and have a very unhappy wife Until I found out about PAC's, god's gift to HT/gamer nuts.

I have mine on top of my cable box. The cable box never really gets hot and the whole top is ventilated. Plus, the two are never on at the same time. I've had my PS3 on top of the cable box for months, even during extreme heat, and have never had any problems.

Correct, especially if it contains a built-in DVR. At best arrange it horizontally, with vents on top, so heat dissipates up off the circuit boards quicker.

Get a longer HDMI cable and move it way far away from your setup, on it's own little shelf or platform somewhere!

Agreed. Got the Motorola DVR from Comcast, and it's like an oven.
