Honest answers please!
Finally pulled the trigger on a 50" G10, since it would arrive the day before a big party my wife and I are having... AFTER hitting accept I remember about the break-in (I looked into it before, but wasn't thinking about it in my excitement of finally getting a TV after 7 months of research/looking) and remembered that the biggest hit at ALL of my parties is rockband! Rockband has EXTREMELY static screens for 3-5 minutes at a time, then when choosing songs changes, so I don't know if it's acceptable or not. I know it will still need to be shown at the lower brightness level, but I wanted some advice from the pros on if this is going to damage my screen or not. :\ THANKS! |

EDIT: The reason why I ask is I'm trying to figure out if the games you were playing had static images (say... CoD 4) rather than moving constantly (say Fight Night Rd 3). Last edited by victimsofadown; 04-30-2009 at 02:40 PM. |

I was just about to suggest the same. There is alot of good hd content out there to fill the screen up if you don't want to see the color slide show from the break in images posted in different forums. Planet earth is fantastic!

I played COD4 and Rock Band 2 on my plasma the 2nd day I bought it, the only reason I didn't play the 1st day was b/c I was too busy. I turned the brightness and contrast down a little but the contrast was in the 60's and brightness was about 50 and neither are far off from where I sit now.
On RB2 I would play anywhere from 30 minutes up to a couple hours. I did have some IR but it didn't bother me when watching TV or anything. It all went away within 20 minutes. I played COD4 but I play mostly hardcore so there aren't many static images then. However even when playing a little bit of non HC, it was about the same as RB2, I would get a little IR and it would go away within 5-10 minutes of normal viewing. |

As you probably noticed, I'm not a firm believer in the break-in ritual. But it's your TV so do what makes you happy. Last edited by repete66211; 04-30-2009 at 10:49 PM. |

I got the TV today and from 3pm-now when not watching it ( on THX @ 40% brightness and 40% contrast ) I am running the break-in images. I will do this until Friday @ 8:30p (when my party starts) and I'll play Rockband on THX w/ the same settings for probably 2-4 hours (possibly including breaks), then I'll put it back on the images. My calculations show that at approx. 75 hours of TV use before it'll be used for gaming, plus it will be on low contrast, so hopefully I'll be fine! Always scary to not follow manufacturer instructions to the T ![]() |

Rock Band will look excellent on your Panasonic Plasma. I have one myself (a PZ850U): text is razor sharp and easy to read. Powerful colors and deep blacks too. |

I'm glad someone went on the record. Too bad they can't put this in print in the owner manual. Seems like useful information. (This is assuming the concierge wasn't just repeating or copy/pasting old information.)

It's nice the concierge gave advice regarding break-in, but he didn't really say much except to avoid the "vivid" setting (which you probably would anyway) and playing video games. He mentioned nothing about reducing brightness or contrast like so many people say. I just had a similar conversation with a concierge named "Ron". All he said was to keep it at the factory settings for 2-3 weeks before calibration. I'll post the conversation on that other thread. |
