Default Apple to buy EA? (Rumour)

http://computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=214262

Quote:
In what would potentially be one of the biggest moves to transpire in the videogames industry, Apple Inc. is supposedly playing with the idea of buying out developing and publishing giant, Electronic Arts. Indeed, it seems only a short while ago that EA was in play to purchase and takeover Take-Two Interactive, which inevitably never happened after the strong sales of Grand Theft Auto IV. However, this latest gossip could lead to Apple jumping head first into the gaming world a lot deeper than just the iPhone or iPod Touch.

This type of buyout could have serious ramifications for gamers worldwide as the rumors of Apple releasing a home console of its own has been known to sprout up on forums from time to time. If Apple were able to purchase a publishing machine as substantial as EA, it would definitely spell the end of rival consoles that are unable to supply their consumers with the vast line-up of titles that EA has on offer.

According to Guy Adami, a Market Analysis big wig, there has been a ton of chatter in regards to the iPod company making a takeover bid of Electronic Arts. While EA has yet to comment on the situation, it's highly doubtful we'll hear anything about it any time soon. However, we'll be sure to update our readers on this situation as it plays it.

I hope not, I don't want Apple's fingerprints all over my favourite video game series, Madden.

Maybe Apple would want to get into the gaming industry and build an APPLE console to compete with the X-Box 360 and Sony Playstation 3. If you think about it, Apple's percentage of the gaming market is very, very small.

Hmmmm.....

The thing I don't like about Apple is that they tend to proprietize thier products. By that I mean that if they were to buy Electronic Arts, it wouldn't surprise me if future titles worked only on a MAC.

Years ago, there was a great German Music software company called emagic and theier recording products worked on both the MAC and PC. Apple bought emagic, rebranded the products as Apple products and dropped development of all PC based products.

We'll see....

I really don't think Apple would buy EA. If anything they are probably just having discussions about their gaming future on iPhone or OS X.

What would be awesome is if they made their AppleTV into a casual gaming machine.

They could have a touchscreen "controller" by utilizing the iPod Touch or iPhones that would talk to it over Bluetooth.

Buy the games from the AppStore directly to the AppleTV (similar to the iPhone).

As I understood it, the EA license for NFL football is dependent on them releasing to everybody.

Without Madden what does EA have really? Most games are published by EA but not owned by them, lots of these games' developers would just blow off EA and find a new publisher.

This is the same response I had when Microsoft was supposed to buy EA.

Actually the iPhone is making huge leaps and bounds in portable gaming. It already has far more games available than any other handheld platform with many of them being free or at least much cheaper than they are on other platforms. Myst just came out at $6.99. Also Apple recently hired someone from MS gaming division and someone from ATI.

Sure, but there are boatloads of free/super cheap PC games, and people don't generally consider this a serious threat to PC gaming. How is this different?

the upcoming iphone isn't a big upgrade over the 3g, but the iphone after that..or the next touch should be. i've been keepking up on the likely processors that everyone is using. should be fun

but yea..its a different market they're after, and i think no matter what..they won't really compete directly with the ds/psp

Or just to get more games on Mac.

This might be a ploy to get more marketshare.

I mean people are sliding more and more towards Mac, this might be a move that would push people considering a new computer to head to the Mac side of the fence.
