Talking Bill Maher is 'Religulous'

I saw this movie for the first time last night on a friend's recommendation. I'd never heard of it, and I've never really seen anything with Maher, but wow was this funny! I haven't laughed so hard in a long time, any other fans of 'Religulous' here??

Yeah definitely why I chose to watch it, after hearing from my buddy about some of the things, I just had to see it to believe it. Did you like that in his entire film and all the interviews he did, not one person had a single intelligent rebuttal or even one single reason as to why the believe in what they do? I love the kind of stuff he stirs up, and will definitely be checking out more of it. I love when he mentioned the mediterranian religions and how it compared to christianity and that lady was like "that's just not true" or the trucker "you're making fun of my jesus!"

Any hopes for a sequel? Maybe the pope will agree to an interview for a sequel. I wish that woman who plays that nerd with the glasses on 24 is interviewed too.

I haven't seen it yet ... I am waiting for it to appear on blu. I saw a Best Buy promotional ad which said it was going to be on blu but that was a long while ago and the date went by and nothing happened. Probably a misprint.

Don't really think it needs a sequel the first one was way too perfect and got the point across more than enough. Though a sequel of the Holy Land Experience may be worth it, just for the screaming lady running by behind Jesus during the interview, lol. What about the nerd from 24 is she a jesus freak or a rational thinker like us?

If the cheese sandwhich guy had a beard, it could fetch around $35,000.00 on e-bay.

(The potato chip version only went for $25,000.00 on e-bay)

I'll be honest, I hate Bill Maher, but I still enjoy watching his show, so I was looking forward to this movie. I was surprised at how fair/understanding he tried to be in the movie, whereas on his show he seems to try to belittle or mock religion any chance he gets.

The highlight of the movie was Reggie Foster, the Vatican scholar/Latinist guy.

Where's the rationality in thinking the universe and all of life on Earth just happened by chance because of a BIG BANG? Because that's what you were taught in Science class? The theory of Evolution is just a theory because Science has yet to find any real evidence to support it. Do you honestly believe that all creatures evolved from tadpoles? If that is true then why don't we see this process of evolution continue today? Why haven't we as man evolved in to something higher by now? Look around at the trees, the animals and the stars. Think about how everything is perfectly placed with the sun in the center, the planets orbiting around it and the moons orbiting around the planets. Think about how the trees provide oxygen and plants and animal life provide nourishment for our bodies. How could all of this just happen by chance? There has to be a Divine Creators hand at work here. And the truly intelligent and rational thinking person would see that.

Just because someone is not religious does not mean they support or fully believe evolution. Imo it is contradicting to support one idea and say the other is dumb. They both require faith to some degree.

I looked her up for ya.

She's an atheist and I think she's a very interesting person. I hope she returns for the next season of 24.

Please, stop. You're embarrassing yourself, and you're embarrassing the other religious people. If you can't defend your faith without making childish attacks on science, that's a problem you should keep to yourself.

Default This sucked ass

All Maher does is make fun of religious people. As an athiest myself, I dont understand belittling someones personal spiritual beliefs. This movie is like a housecall by the Church of Jesus Christ Latter Day Saints in reverse.

Maher doesnt want to learn anything, he just wants to ridiclue people.

Sad, I saw him when he did stand up and he was funny as hell.

Yeah, I have to agree. Bill Maher and Janeane Garofalo are an embarrassment to the rest of us. They are obnoxious personalities, and they play into the stereotype that we're all a bunch of idiot left-wingers with a purely iconoclastic agenda.

Bill Maher isn't left-wing.

JG is but she's a very interesting person whether you agree with her or not. She's definitely not an idiot nor is Bill Maher. They are obviously very intelligent people.

They are not obnoxious ... you do realize they are both standup comedians don't you?

So being a comedian means you can't be obnoxious?

They may both be comedians, but they both, at times, act like it's their personal mission to share all their right answers with all the stupid people in the world.

~~~
And yes, of course there were no intelligent rebuttals in the movie, because -- as someone else said -- they were probably edited out. And besides, Maher wasn't exactly seeking out the most intelligent people to begin with. What kinds of places did he go? A church for truckers set up in a trailer, a Bible-themed theme park, and some other odd places.
The audience that Religulous was aimed at are people that have already made up their mind, and don't want to hear intelligent rebuttals anyway. They just want to laugh at a few religious people, and then go home feeling like they're on the right side of the argument.
For the sake of wyldeman's thread, all talk should stick to the movie, and not veer off into religious debates. There actually was a thread about this movie a few months ago, and it got closed for getting out of hand.
Aren't stand-up comedians supposed to be funny?
Look, if they amuse you, that's fine, obviously they have some audience, (including yourself) or they wouldn't be in show business. We're talking opinions here. I find them obnoxious, you don't. I don't think there's anything interesting at all about Janeane Garofalo, and frankly, there's nothing I hate more than when stupid people pretend to be smart... therefore, I don't like either of those two.
You must remember friend, that just because we have been touched by the noodley appendage of the Flying Spaghetti Monster, it doesn't mean that we must belittle the faith or beliefs of others.
Like I said before, I dislike Maher because of his arrogance, but even I can admit that sometimes he is funny, and he's not exactly a dummy.
Garofalo I don't find funny, but then again I don't really see her on TV at all. The only times I see her on TV she's usually acting like a spoiled brat, yelling at someone on some cable news channel.
Never liked Maher and won't be seeing this one.
Does this movie attack all religions from the stance of atheism?
