I'm having a slight issue and wondering if i'm missing something. That grey box that tells you your signed in or out for psn is cut off....i get the first word but the word in does not show fully. The only way i do see it fully is when i run it on a 4:3 screen. It's been doing this since i've owned the ps3 since launch. I thought maybe having 30in wide screeen was the cause but when i tried it on my friend's 46in widescreen it still does it and im using hdmi cable. It's not the biggest deal but i am curious bout why. I've gone through all my screen a adjustment options an none help. I'm guessing maybe i'd have to use the way the factory's options wich are not in the manual. Also i still can't fix warhawk screen cut off i'm wondering now if maybe the tube itself shifted and is now lopsided. Would there be a easy way to fix that myself or best to take it to a shop? I'm hoping it's not actually shifted and i don't know how it would have been considering it did'nt start doing it till after bout 2 weeks later. I had carefully move my tv into a different room. I've had warhawk since it came out and never had this issue till couple months ago. My tv is a crt. Thanks in advance to anyone who can give me any helpful info.

thats wierd. so it does it with both component and hdmi cable? i have a 46" tv and it doesnt cutt off to that extreme.
did you try to reset the a/v settings by holding the power button down till the second beep when the ps3 is on stand by? then you can re-do the video settings and see if it clears. |

What type of TV's are you trying it on? CRT, plasma, LCD? It definitely sounds like an overscan issue, as mentioned above. IMO that feature should always be turned off, even if you don't "notice" anything being cropped off the edges if the screen. It would be a simple setting in the TV's setup menu, assuming it can be adjusted.

Your friend's LCD will almost certainly have an overscan feature. I'm willing to bet he has it turned on in his TV. On your CRT, I'm not sure if it's a setting that can be adjusted or not.
EDIT: OK I just pulled up your TV's menu online. First, a Sony is what came up, so I'm assuming that's the brand you have. If so, it does have some screen size adjustment options, and your manual goes over them on pages 40, 50 and 51. When you're home and have some time, pull out the manual and experiment with the different settings and see if any of the settings will correct the issue you're having with your display size. I don't see the word "overscan" used, but basically any time you have your TV set to zoom or stretch in any way, you're using an overscan. You want to make whatever selection that allows your TV to display all content in the original aspect ratio. For instance, on my Samsung plasma, that setting is called "Just Scan". On your TV, it looks like you'll want "normal". It looks like this applies mostly to 4:3 material, but I would still work with it some and see what happens. Also on page 59, it talks about 16:9 and other widescreen formats some, and your TV has a feature called "16:9 enhanced". The manual says this should work automatically, but if it isn't (which it sounds like it may not be), you'll need to turn it on manually. Try all this when you get home and let us know how it goes. I had the same issue with a 34 inch Sony widescreen CRT that I used to play PS3 on. Whenever I won a trophy or someone from my list logged on I would not get to see the entire box. It had about half an inch cut off. I could not even get to see parts of the HUD of a game if it was placed too much on one side. I had it over HDMI and the TV defaulted to the Full setting and would not let me change it. Even tried changing the resolution from 1080i to 720p and it still had the same problem. Tried everything imaginable and could not fix it. Hope you get to figure it out and fix it.
