Default Possibly going to Chicago tomorrow (Saturday)...

Kind of last minute, but my wife and I may go to Chicago on Saturday for the day to do some shopping and eating (of course). Does anyone have any suggestions for "must-go-to" eating establisments?

My wife is an Mexican food fiend and I like just about anything. I've never had a real Chicago Dog and I'm really hungry for some awesome pizza.

Any help? Its been probably 3-4yrs since we've visited.

for pizza...try Gino's East of Chicago...I always recommend Gibson's for an awesome steakhouse...and Fogo De Chao...you need to experience that BBQ once in your life....for reals.
two other excellent ones...Alinea and MK The Restaurant.

Girodanos is my favorite pizza place and a must everytime I go to Chicago. Great Chicago-style pizza. I've never been to Gino's but have heard good things as JK mentioned.

I remember last time we just plain ran out of time and I wanted to try Girodanos but it just didn't work out.

Chi town is my favorite cities to visit...I go once every other year. They have the best restaurants in the world...people there like to eat.

Some of the places I mentioned are pricey, but, worth it...if you like steak and salads..you deserve to try out Fogo De Chao...its an amazing experience.

I agree. I've been to Fogo De Chao in Atlanta and it's awesome. Brazilian steakhouses are my favorite.

Just googled Fogo and that place looks awesome JK-glad you mentioned it. What are the prices like? If the kids come than Fogo is out. We'll probably have to keep out meal budget for the day to $60-$80.

+100. Amazing experience and amazing food. What sucks is when I went to Brazil I noticed these restaurants where actually everywhere and ridiculously cheap.

Thanks for the tip-I'll definitely remember that place. For a treat once in a while the wife and I will splurge on a place like that. Sounds like it blows Bd's Mongolian Barbeque out of the water-which really isn't that hard.

Giordano's is quite filling, couple people I know there are mixed on it but I was eager to try it out. Damn filling!

Went there last September for the first time and love the city, not sure how close to downtown it is but I surprisingly got a real kick out of Millenium Park.

Thanks everyone for all the great tips. We did end up going to The Windy City after all.

Drove from the Grand Rapids area to Michigan City and caught the South Shore train line to the Millenium Station-$13.00 bucks round trip each for the wife and myself. Nice way to travel-no parking/don't have to drive in the city-win/win for me.

We walked around Navy Pier and Millenium Park-both were fun.

We ended up eating at Giordano Pizza for lunch and then to cap off the night we drove back to Mishawaka IN for 5 Guys burgers.

All in all an awesome day spent with the family in awesome city gorging on awesome food.

There is nothing else like it. I ate at the one in Dallas, what a great experience!

The best steakhouse I have ever been to is Papa Bros.(Yes, had Mortons and Bobs!), but this is an easy second.....

Gino's is on the list next trip-I saw where it was at.
We had soooo much fun we are planning another trip probably in the middle of June-an overnighter this time. Does anyone know if there will be any festivals or fun things going then? More ideas for great food stops?

I have never been to Ginos east , but saw an episode of man vs. food when the host went there and it definatly looked like a dominating pie. Try the meaty legend. Enjoy your trip

Gino's East is very good, hard to choose between them and Giordano's. Both places make a great pie. As JK mentioned, Gibsons is also a great steakhouse but can get pretty expensive.

What part of Chicago are you going to be in? I live about 20 minutes west of Chicago, so needless to say i've been just about everywhere.

I'd DEFINATELY check out Maxwell Street Polish. Cheap, and delicious. It'd make a great place for you and the wife to catch lunch for cheap. Then you'd be able to go somewhere nicer for dinner. Just my $.02

Since you seem like a nice guy, i wont tell you what i think of the Red Wings...Sorry, i had to say it. Blackhawks fan here
