Default Stupid question: Do you invert your Y-axis?

I don't play shooters very often, because I'm absolutely terrible at aiming with a controller. I was raised on Duck Hunt, and firmly believe that all shooters should be gun-con compatible. Sadly for me, nearly 20 years later, there are still very few games that support gun-cons.

Having said that, when I do feel like playing a shooter, I can never get comfortable with the Y-axis, whether it's inverted or not. Sometimes I invert it while exploring, but while aiming and shooting it just feels awkward. It gets even worse when I try to play co-op with my fiancée, since he's a habitual Y-inverter.

I understand the mechanics behind the inverted Y-axis, but it still seems silly to me unless it's in a game where the player flies and airplane. How do you set your controls for shooters?

well inverting would really depend on how hte standard layout is to begin with yes ?? some games start with them inverted already so inverting them would make them normal .. and vice versa ..
personally im not a huge FPS fan myself but i typically will make it so pushing up is looking up and down is looking down .. though there have been games , that for whatever reason , felt more normal for them to be inverted ..

If there is an option for inverting the Y Axis, I always go for that. It feels too weird otherwise.

Ugh.... I hate using an inverted Y-axis! Even if it comes default that way, I always change it.

It must be inverted for me! Space mini game in Ratchel ToD was a pain to be 'cause we couldn't inverted it. For some reason I've been used to control my gun like a plane! pull down to go up!

In deadspace final boss, I've put the contol not inverted and inverted the x so, when upside down I had better controls!!!

I always use inverted for y-axis. Got so used to it on ps2 playing ace combat and jet games it just stuck with me.

Inverted, because most people got used to flight simulation games where its backwards, and its kept that way in shooter since the PS1 days.

Inverting the Y-axis is something I was use to in the goldeneye era but after Halo I will never invert my Y-axis again. Up should be up and down should be down. It just feels natural now unless I am playing a plane game or something.

FPS - Not inverted (Honestly, inverted axis on a shooter makes no sense to me).

Airplane - Inverted (As it should be)

I invert mine and it's Decent's fault. And Wing Commanders. And all flight PC games. My mind thinks pulling back on the stick pulls UP so yeah. I always invert.

Think of it like you are controlling your position from standing. If you move the stick back you are leaning back and looking up!

Read my sig

But seriously I can never understand it the other way. I was demoing a friends game and the team hadn't implemented an invert y-axis option. I was rubbish, couldn't get my head around it. Kept dying all over the shop. First thing I said when he asked me how the game was "Invert the y-axis"

Nice signature!

I'm actually surprised that so many people do not invert their Y axis.

Used to love inverted when I played Wing Commander back in the day but now I can't stand it. So, no invert for me.

Although, doesn't matter too much nowadays. Glad they put the option in so they can accommodate everyone.

Me too! The way I see it is that if the stick was in the back of my head I would move it down to look up and up to look down. Though I don't invert the x-axis because moving left to look right or right to look left would just be silly

For all you non-inverted Y-axis folks.. I just want you to think of something before you doom us all...

When the aliens come to wipe out our planet and the president starts enlisting us to fly jet planes to perform a simultaneous worldwide assault on their motherships you're going to wish you had remembered to invert your y-axis.

Pulling back on the stick will make you go up, not down, so when you try to take off you're going to push up and crash dive creating a hazard on the airstrip which will slow down deployment of us inverted y-axis folks who are trying to save the world.

Do us all a favor and learn to use the inverted y-axis or you will be the cause of enslavement for the human race.
