TDK video quality praised yet the non-Imax majority looks poor. - Blu-ray Forum

TDK's picture quality is some of the worst in my blu-ray collection hell I have movies made in the late 90's (5th element) with alot better picture quality. Just one thing that puzzles me is that people insist on praising the picture quality of this transfer, were this reviewers simply praising the IMAX sequences alone? if so I agree but for the other scenes im disappointed on how people are too scared to criticize TDK's PQ.

i dont consider it a reference disc but it was damn good. might want to check your settings.

OP - just out of curiosity, what blurays do you consider to have great PQ? i'd like to get an understanding for your own personal PQ rating system. many people obviously consider TDK to have incredible PQ--Imax and non-imax scenes alike--and i see no problem with you not thinking that way; I would just like to understand why (i.e. specific problems you have with it).

Wow TDK is widely considered to be RQ in both AQ and PQ, not sure where you're getting this from.

For awhile there(and it may still be) I considered it to be the best blu-ray in my collection.

I simply have to disagree. Yes, the IMAX scenes are absolutely stunning, however the rest of the movie is nothing to scoff at either. I think the PQ is great! Is it the best? That can be debated, but it sure is damn good!

TDK does indeed have an awesome PQ not to include the IMAX scenes (which are stunning)!

Obviously im not going to get anywhere trying to prove this but the trailers for movie imo had alot better picture quality and the flesh tones and colors were alot more accurate and close to reality then the boosted up contrast, black crushing, oversharpness, and much pushing of red and blue tint in the final product.

Compare the trailers to the movie you'll see what im talking about.

No just feel it could have been better doesn't really take away the enjoyment of the movie though.

The Blu-ray represents how the movie looked in theaters. Trailers are a poor judge many times because final processing and color timing has not been done.

Im not criticizing the movie im criticizing the PQ and how imo it could have been better.
