Default The $6000 Marantz Universal Player

From the AK Fest coverage by Positive Feedback.

Looks like a beast, but I'll pocket $5500 and stick with my Oppo.

Wow some of these pricetags are rediculous when the format still has room to change and there is no guarantee that will be future compatible.

Looks nice though! For that price it better

For that kind of cash, it had better get up and cook breakfast for me.

Marantz tends to sell their products for a bit more than their counterpart and sister company Denon. The new Denon DVD-A1UDCI has a suggested Retail Price of $4,500. So the Marantz is $1,500 more. I am not sure if the Marantz has any more features or better specs than the Denon.

RS-232 for custom installers? Although, I would expect the Denon to incorporate that as well.

The Denon DVD-A1UDCI also has RS232 (which is only an $80 add-on to the BDP-83 anyway).

I think I would pocket $1500 in favor of the Arcam FMJ BD player (at $4500) coming in December 2009. But my Arcam dealer just picked up Marantz, so it wouldn't hurt to take a look at this little.....er, uh, BIG baby.
