Upscaling Games With The PS3

Do you let the PS3 upscale games (does it even do it?), or do you let your TV do it.

For example, let's say GTA IV is 720p at its native resolution, would you force the upscaling by unchecking everything BUT 1080p on the PS3 or TV?

PS3 doesn't upscale games, I'm not sure why, considering the 360 does.

Not sure if it would be beneficial to do so either.

The PS3 doesn't have a built in scaler like the 360 does, but certain games will upscale to 1080p if you disable all other options, however doing this can cause problems with certain other games (like Wolverine).

really native resolution is better for games at 720p. like the above states, it can cause issues. the only benifit in scaling is if you have my situation. a 1080i/480p hdtv. if you want more information on games that scale and this issue with the ps3 see:

One of my kids TV's is just that an old Panasonic (old for electronics)

The PS3 DOES upscale, just not the PS3 games. There is a PS1/PS2 upscaler. I rather thought that is what this thread was about. Well, anyway, there *was* an upscaler for the 60gb version. I don't know if that is one of the things that got dropped with the newer versions (sucks to be anyone that can't see their old games in slightly enhanced graphics (it DOES work well for PS1 games, IMO).

it may be old for the natural progession of electronics, but ive seen no reason to get a new tv. my tv is less than 10 yrs old and to me, thats not old enough or reason to replace. i get an excellent pic with all things games and blu ray. games that dont scale on the ps3 i get on the 360.
