Default Which Subwoofer Should I Get?

Hi,

I'm planning to upgrade the subwoofer (around $300) for my living room. But I'm not sure which subwoofer is the best choice for my receiver and speaker setup that I have now.

My setup is...
Pioneer VSX-919AH-K
Polk Monitor 50 (Black)
Polk CS1 (Black)
Polk Monitor 40 (Black)
Subwoofer from Onkyo HT-S790

I found Polk PSW505 for $250 at J&R.com. Is this a good choice for my setup? It doesn't have to be a Polk subwoofer, if it is black. Do you have any suggestions?

Thanks,

I would look at the PA-120 or if you can stretch you're budget another $50 I would get the eD A2-300.

PA-120 $260 shipped

eD A2-300 $350 shipped

Have a psw505 and I think it is a solid subwoofer. Paid 250 as well from newegg. It does perform better on a riser or platform of some kind, just to keep it in mind. For less than 300 bucks there aren't too many competitors that have the reliability and performance of this subwoofer imo.

These are good choices, and the PA-120 has a nice piano finish on top, which makes it a good choice if there is a WAF (wife approval factor) involved.....

My advice, as with any speaker shopping, is to put together a short list of options that are speakers that you would want to own that are normally 25%-33% out of your budget range, and then shop the sales and discounts until you find a bargain on one of the speakers on your list... and also, what many consumers do not know, is that in many cases those prices are negotiable.

... and I like Erict's suggestion of looking into eD, they generally offer amazing performance-to-price.

Hey mj, i think you meant "subs" instead of "speakers". But I'm sure the point was well taken.

Subs are a type of speaker. I said "speaker" because I think that procedure should apply, subwoofer or otherwise.

Good luck, just remember it will take about another 6-8 weeks or so to get it, so if you order on Black Friday, you might not have it in your hands until January. Thats a long time to me, so you have more patience than I do, thats for sure!

I saw MartinLogan DYNBLD Dynamo 10-Inch Subwoofer at Amazon lightning deal. It was about $245, and I ordered it. Is this better than eD A2-300? I can still cancel the order...

Wow, that went away fast

Not sure if its too much better, but still, would be an awesome addition to any HT.
Any chance you wanna sell it to me instead of cancelling

It wouldn't be better in terms of HT performance; just musicality most likely since the Dynamo is sealed and is for music purposes.

By the way, check out my subwoofer thread I made last night. I am selling an A2-300 with all the goodies.

Well, coming from someone who owns a Dynamo or two(with 2 more on the way) I can say with complete confidence that it has amazing HT performance. If you want smooth tight quality bass that won't shake everything in your house and has a very small footprint, then the ML Dynamo definitely won't disappoint. I couldn't be happier with the way the Dynamo's perform in my HT.
