That is nice to hear. I wish there was some way to quantify how many PS3 owners use it as a BD player, to get more accurate numbers. Just think if all PS3 owners would purchase just 2 or 3 BD's (which would total less then the price of 1 PS3 game). The impact would be astronomical.

Sony should try to do some kind of poll. Maybe when people go to update their PS3 firmware, there could be a simple 'do you use PS3 for BD's' poll.

Keep in mind too, that this is just for US I believe. Outside of this, the ratio gets even better.

Yes indeed,

I live in Lebanon and PS3 is the only Blu-ray player for the time being in my Location.PS3 is an explosion machine.NO HD-DVD player at all even with The XBOX 360 no ADD ON and NO HD-DVD Movies.

IN Virgin Megastore you can find only BD movies ...Whereas at the time PS3 being released two month ago it did cost you $800

NOW IT DID COST YOU $600.

SWEET ALL THE WAY........,

I think they did when I first signed up for the PS3 network or some such. I remember the question about will you be using your PS3 as.... It would be nice to see some numbers as to the amount of people who are using them that way. Just from reading posts here it looks like a lot of people are doing just that.

It's a slaughter.

What happened to HD-DVD discs being cheaper for the consumer?

Yes, only 50,000 more than Blu-ray stand-alones, which is not surprising when you consider that many people, even hardcore HT enthusiasts opted for the PS3 as their main Blu-ray player, and basically use it as a 'stand-alone'. The 360 add-on rubbish, sold an additional 150,000 units, so in total HD DVD has only managed to move 300,000 units whereas Blu-ray players when you combine sales of the PS3 and 'stand-alones' are in the millions. Complete domination.

How is it a slaughter? It was much more of a gap a few months ago. BD should be wiping the floor with HD DVD for having 5 times as many players, but for some reason they aren't. this war should be over.

nope, this kind of wars are won during holiday shopping season. sony is smart for holding content back right now, selling discs in a market of 2m players is a lot better than to market of 100k players, sales are completely driven by new releases. hddvd made a big blunder by rushing their titles out last xmas, now they are completely out of ammo. their only hope is that sony/bda makes a major blunder.

Add to that, that Fox hasn't even been releasing anything because they have been waiting on BD+ which is now ready to go and it's even more of a slaughter.

Your analysis needs work. Look through the eproducts data. The #10 BD is ranked ahead of the #2 HD-DVD. Now realize that most of the Top 10 HD-DVD are not even available now or any time soon, they are distant preorders or stock material like HD Essentials or PE... none of them are current releases because they have no content. Blu-ray backers are not forced to order lame movies 2 months prior to release date because we have actual options. You may also want to read the news or pay attention to recent developments.

While I think people mislead with the 4:1 attach rate claim for HD DVD, it is also somewhat misleading to use the 5:1 edge in players without mentioning that those PS3s should sell less discs per player on average. Blu-ray is leading for software sales, but that 5:1 claim could mislead some people.

Interesting numbers given that it is over 1.8:1 and I think even higher than what Nielsen lists for SI ratio for discs. Pretty impressive for Blu-ray, especially considering that HD DVD likely ended 2006 with a big lead.
