Default New to the BD camp. Hi!

Hey all. This is my first post. I jumped on the HD-DVD bandwagon early due to the lower prices (back when it was $350 for the cheapest HD-DVD player vs. $1000 or close to it for a BD player). Last week after some of the recent announcement such as Blockbuster video going BD only for in-store rentals and HD-DVD not catching up in software sales even after dropping prices on the HD-A2 player I decided to buy a PS3.

I'm very impressed with this machine. I wish it had a better remote option as I've invested in a universal remote so having to use either the BT remote or game controller takes me back to having multiple remotes. Thats' really my only complaint. I found an IR remote that has an IR receiver dongle that goes in the PS3. I've ordered it and hope to be able to use it to program my universal remote. I've already discovered that this remote doesn't offer the ability to turn the PS3 on or off but it should handle the other functionality well from what I've heard.

I've only purchased 1 BD movie (Bridge to Taribithia) but I have several in my Blockbuster queue so I will be seeing more soon. I think the PS3 also does a pretty good job of up-converting DVDs. My display is a Sanyo PLV-Z4 throwing a 122" image on a DIY screen (which is a little large and I intend to redo the screen this summer down to about 100").

Any way, just thought I would introduce myself and join the fun.

Yeah, I found myself already switching over any HD-DVDs in my queue over to BD, partially just because its the new machine and I want to test it out, but I also feel like I would avoid buying any HD-DVDs for the time being as I feel a domino effect coming on.

you just need this
http://www.nyko.com/nyko/products/?i=113

Easily control the next generation of home entertainment with the Blue-Wave Remote from Nyko. The Blu Wave allows you to easily control the playback of Blu-Ray movies, DVDs and CDs on the PlayStation 3 console. Utilizing infrared technology, the Blue Wave can navigate system and movie menus, skip chapters or tracks, pause and play a movie or music and replicate other PlayStation 3 controller functionality from up to 25 feet away. The compact USB IR receiver plugs into any open USB port for easy set up requiring no complicate software, pairing or programming. The Blue Wave is powered by 2 AA batteries (included).

Then program that to your Universal!
Welcome aboard.

I think we may need a welcome forum here.

Welcome to the forum. If you find people a little angry at the HD-DVD side it is only because we have been kicked to the curb for quite a long time. We like to let off steam here sometimes. Just ignore it.

That's the one I was referring to that I ordered. It doesn't have a power button from what I've been told so you can't shut the PS3 off with that remote, you'd still have to use the controller or shut it off manually.

Everyone else, thanks for all the welcome posts!
