Noob needs receiver help

This is my first time posting to this site after lurking in the hot deals section for months and I've finally decided to sign up and post because I am in need of a good receiver to start my home theater. I own a ps3 with about a 40 movie blu ray collection and i have to upgrade from the miserable TV speaker audio! I would like those with some knowledge to tell me if these receivers i am looking at are decent or junk. I've heard from a couple sources that Onkyo is the way to go for quality receivers and i have a couple picked out here that are within the budget i want to spend, which is only from $250 to $400. Any kind of feedback would be great from you guys. If you have other suggestions for a receiver, that'd be great too! Thanks!
Also FYI: I have no home theater knowledge so try and keep the technical talk simple or to a minimum
